Please parden me if I have raised this issue before. I have been battling with this oil leak for ages now, after removing the pump umteen times I thought I had found the problem around the control lever shaft. Under the control lever and washer there is an "O" ring on the sharf which I replaced and believed that I had resolved my oil leak as there was no oil on the paper towel under the control lever. Low and behold yesterday I notice this damn oil leak again. My last resort now is to remove the pump once more and take it to the pump specialists :curse:

Have anyone on the forum experienced this themselves :?:

Hi Mervyn, did you use a o ring specific for that purpose or jut one out of a box that fitted? I ask as I did a John Deere pump a few years ago and was advised to get the JD o ring as it was made to withstand the diesel fuel and wouldn`t soften or harden over time. It hasn`t leaked for years since.

Hi Dave,
Thank you for your response, my first attemp was an o ring off the shelf as to say with a slightly smaller id. I visited the Injector service guys on Friday and they had a 4 cylinder pump with out the control shaft in, there was a definate indent surrounding the shaft. I was informed that in earlier days a similar washer to the o ring was used but instead of it been round cross section it was sqaure if that makes sense. Lately two round cross sectional o rings were fitted then a flat steel washer followed by a wavy washer then the c-clip. I was given those items but have not been in the mood to remove that damn pump for the umteenth time. Busy planning my trip to the northern hemisphere.

Hi Mervyn,
Sorry to hear about all the problems that you have had with your injector pump. At least you managed to find out where your oil leak was coming from. Hopefully you will be able to get it sorted out soon and back up and running minus the leak.

Thank you Charlie, really peed off now, I have decided to teach myself how to do the Sudoku puzzle until I get in to the mood to look at the pump again. To crown it all it has been very hothere, obviously not like the UAE but draining. I'm busy with a email back to you Charlie give me a few more days.

After a long search on the iiternet for some information on the Simms P4696 Injector pump I was able to find an exploded diagram of a 4 cylinder simms pump with part names but no part numbers. I believe the shafts are the same. However on further searching I was able to establish that the seal is a "Nu-Lip Ring". A part number associated with that seal/ring is 37H1065. I will be going back to my specialist guy today who says he may be able to help me, hold thumbs. I will be taking my pump in with me.

Mervyn,
I've come up trumps for your pump seals if your stuck and for the pricey sum of 0.76p + Vat each.. A company here in the UK stock them, John Charnley and Sons Tractors. If you are stuck I can order them for you and you can collect them when over in sunny Scotland. They even have a past diagram of the pump. There seems to be two seals. They also for Leyland, Nuffield and Marshall.

Hi Charlie,
Thank you very much for all your help and research, I may have to go ahead with your option to pick those rings/seals up in sunny Scotland. I also saw the web site that you are referring too and the exploded diagram plus part nnames. If they are the same rings the part number I came up with is, 37h1065- Nu-lip ring. However I did visit my buddy at the injector workshop and he had a half stripped p4696 pump and pulled the rings off the shaft for me. Very strange looking rubber ring with a concave surface on both sides. The plan is to slot the particular washer into the groove folled by a round o-ring then a washer after which you slip the c clip on. Bad news is that there is still a damn leak, haven't checked this morning. 90% is my problem as there is still a bit of movement in the shaft which I believe would allow for a slight leak. I also took note of the movement/play on the half stripped pump and there was no play at all. I had every intension to leave the pump on the bench for a few days to see if the leak had stopped, but somehow I was eager to put it back on the tractor :x . Now to pull it off again and try and get rid of that movement of the shaft. This time I will leave the pump off for a couple of weeks, failing that I will be knocking on John Charnley's door. We have a Leyland dealership here where I live so it might be an idea to visit them.
