Hi All my ford 3000 force, new pistons and liners, head completely refurbed new injector nozzles and set up, starts on what I would describe as only 2 cylinder's and is quite lumpy for about 20 seconds is there any thing I should check?

Could be normal in cold weather or even the engine not had enough work after a rebuild. The three cylinder engines were not the best starters and runners when first started. When the tractors first came out there was a service campain to fit "anti flutter" valves in the fuel lines because of a "seeming" miss at high revs.

Are you using the thermostart when starting from cold?

Other than that I would check the injectors again and possibly the injection pump.

the tractor has had no work since putting the engine back in, iam not using the thermostart as I have not wired it up yet, should the be a little reserve tank to feed the thermostart?

No tank on those tractors just the diesel in the return line. If you are not using the thermostart and its down around 2-3 degrees I would expect lumpy running when first started.

thanks for your help, will try it next time with the thermosstart, take it on a force engine the timing mark for the pump is 0 degrees?

I tend to agree with Brian about this being the nature of the beast, especially with the "flutter" issue. Our old 4000 was the lumpiest running thing after a cold start, especially in winter. In the 10 years we owned it, it never got any better, and never got any worse either. The 4610 is a far better starting and idling tractor.

If you are thinking about doing something with the injection pump, maybe see if you can find one off of a later model, like a 3600 or 3910. I am assuming that these would work on a 3000 - Brian?
