Mike's Show

Post by Brian »

Mike,

Is your show going ahead this year? I would like to come over again and perhaps bring my old friend Terry.

Anyone else going to this show? It really is worth the trip and the industrial equipment is quite something. I am aiming to be there on the Saturday. A chance for a meet up!

OH BUGGER! :stress:

I have promised to take the caravan down south, for my daughter and her family to have a weeks holiday, the weekend before.
Site is all booked and I've got to collect it back on the Saturday, which is the first day of the show.
So, I'm booked in to take my 'old girl' on the Sunday. Looks like I'll miss you Brian. :curse:

Anyway, come on you guys. As Brian said, it's well worth the trip. Lots to see. Military kit, a lot of 'steamers', loads of tractors, cars, bikes, the biggest collection of crawlers in the UK.
(I doubt many will have seen a 'dozer' as big as the one we have there).
Loads of stalls - YES! a beer tent (compulsory). AND More!
All proceeds to County Air Ambulance.

Now, where's my tamborine?

Come and join us, come and join us ...

Hi Mike,
Since it might be just a tiny bit too far for me to travel to the show, can you tell me a little bit more about the crawlers that will be there? What's the big one that's going to be there? A Euclid?
Thanks.

Any one going to Aston Bank on Sunday? Mike will be there and s will I. I'm bringing along a couple of old friends from my Ford service days, now is your chance to find out if all the tales I have told about J J Wright and Sons are true. :D One of them, Terry, was in the 15cwt Ford truck loaded with Claas parts that I towed home behind my Escort van,

Ha! Brian is bringing along a couple of old workmates to Astwood Bank - Good!
Now, with careful use of the beer tent, we may be able to get the 'low down' on some of the real stories of his earlier years.

If you see a bunch of chaps under the table in the beer tent, that will be us. I will be the one still standing.

Did you ever find a plough body for your BMB?

i shall keep an eye out for you under the tables.

i never did find a plough for her i have just fitted a new engine a 8hp briggs and stratton.

I would even be happy with a tool frame with some scuffles so i can work her on the plot of land i have just ploughed with my dexta.

Well,
The show is over. Great weather and a good week end had by all.
Personally, I was dissapointed because, compared to previous years, there was only one stand selling tractor spares (last year there were four) all of the others were 'car boot' junk :(

Really great to meet with Brian again, also nice to meet Colin and James.
For the crawler fans amongst you, here's a picture of Brian, in front of one of the many crawlers around.

As Mike said, the parts stands were a little disappointing especially as I had saved all my money to buy a new exhaust for Nuffy after rotovating the old one in after it fell off the other day.

However there were a great assortment of tractors, cars, trucks and motorbikes on show as well as steam engines and tractor pullers. It was interesting to see the big beasts roaring down the track and when they put slightly modified Power Major on the sled it outpulled them all  (alright I will tell the truth, it was a petrol Dexta  )(Ok so it did not move the sled at all but I gave it 110% for effort)

It was also great to meet Mike again face to face and James with his father (even though he has a Ferguson plough behind his Dexta).

We spent a long while looking around the plant machinary this year.

This is what was behind that dozer blade in Mike's picture!

Its a Euclid! Two engines each driving a track and you steer by slowing one down and speeding the other up. Straight ahead is both running at the same speed with any luck and they are about 400hp each if my memory serves me well.

Put to GM V8 diesels at each end and mount it on these and you have a very serious piece of kit indeed

And if that is still not enough HP for you, you shove it from the back with one of these

And if you want to do a bit of sub soiling .......

Or you could just go for a trip in this beuatiful Morgan.

Image

Oh, and Henk, I made an offer of €50 in Dies's name for this.

But they would not include the Opico Motor Cart in the background

Brian,
You noticed the large quantity of new Komatsu's then
YES! They're his. They have a main depot about 8 miles from there, 1.5 miles from my home.
As I said yesterday, 'he's not short of a bob or two', thankfully, he's very good to our club 8)
Did you also notice our chairman ? Pete Waghorne. YES! the guy who is now national chairman of the NVTEC. Clout we got

You will be pleased to know ALL the pens were put to good use by 'close of play' to encourage 'new young blood' to join our 'on-line family' Image

Regards,
Mike
