Standard Grader Dorset Steam Fair

Post by Jerry Coles »

Hi all
Saw this beasty working away at the Great Doeset Steam Fair. The starting handle looks very exposed.

That's quite a grader, Jerry. I'll bet that you would be tired after running it all day!

I can see a Cat D-7 4T in the background. I have one that is identical to it, except that mine doesn't have its original O.D. green paint.

There were two big Cats there, one towing a cable operated scraper which had been used on D Day and the other was for pushing the scraper when filling the box.

Someone gave you the wrong information, Jerry. That cable scraper is a Cat 435, which wasn't made until after WW 2. Most of the scrapers used in the war were made by LeTourneau. It doesn't really matter, I like old Cat iron no matter when it was made.

I didn't take a photo of the other green Cat but that was towing a cable operated scraper and that was green with a white star. The one in the background in my first photo is a more modern yelloe one.

Hello,
here is a picture of a similar Malcome Moore grader made over here in Australia.
This one needs a bit of work though.
