looking very good Pascal

You have issues with new tinwork like me, nothing is made like it used to be :( i would rather pay abit more for new panels, wings, nosecones etc and have ones that have been made well and that fit 100 %

I hope to get the wiring all done on mine this next week.

Keep up the good work and look after your cousin.

Mark

Thank you, Mark!

It's indeed a shame of the tinwork... :(
Hopefully it will change in the future.

Good luck with the wiring. In my opinion it's not the fun job to do,
but a very important one.

I will look after him. :D

As we spoke about this earlier Pascal, it's not only the tinwork. A lot of parts are slightly different or will not fit right. Some are even in bad quality. Shame that the producers and sellers do not pay a bit more attention to it.

How are you planning to fix the nose?

The repro tin on the majors is a pain in the butt. I hear lots of horror stories about it .I got 2 pairs of fenders shipped over to Canada for my supers from Agri line. one set is exactly the same as the originals.
The other set is 3" taller and look stupid on the tractor. there is clearance for 38" tyres under them with out adding spacers. if i only had 1 tractor it would not matter having an odd sized set. The tractors came from the same farm and I want to show them as a pair.
unless I find an other original sized pair these 2 will look odd together. not a happy camper with the cost of them :x .
I also hear that original steering axle tops and repro spindles dont work together and vice versa. you have to replace the whole set or the wheel tracking is a mile out.

Hi guys, just wondering about my majors engine, its labelled 500e36938, it has 100mm bores and is a 4 cylinder. Does anyone know what horsepower etc it would be and where it would of originally come from?
Also ive read this whole thread, its helped me alot and answered a few questions about re-building my engine (water in oil).
Ive got a bloke coming round with a liner puller tommorow night to get my liners out for me. How easily do the new ones go in and what is the best way of doing it?
Many thanks nick

Hi Nick,

I don't know how many HP that block has.

I used Grani's pictures and advices to put the new liners in.
It's easier to get them in, than to get them out.

Good luck

Nick,

Any chance of a picture? The 500E number is possibly a casting number and not an engine identifying one. Normally the castng numbers are E1ADDN or even DDN. 500E sounds like a truck but they used the same block. Or is yours a six?

Does the injection pump drive from a shaft or is it bolted to the timing cover back plate?

The injectors are in the valve cover and the pipes go into the head. Are the seals, seen from the outside, in "U" shaped holes or do they have large round seals with hexagon nuts?

I will try and get some pictures up soon, but i can tell you that it is a 4 cylinder engine, the pump is driven from a shaft and the injectors have a u shaped seal thing that you can see from the outside.
On a more exciting note i managed to get the liners out, they are knackered! They are single o-ring with 1-1/4 piston pin, looks like its been re-built before because the con-rods are all stamped and the con-rod bearings are + 0.010, these are also stamped enfo.

So the big cleaning job has started of the block, all the o-ring seats are immaculate which is good.
Like i said i will try and get some pictures up soon!

sorry the conrods are stamped 1,2,3,4, not enfo

The con rods are stamped from new, did you note which way the numbers faced? Its important when you rebuild.

There is a number on the cap as well as the rod and the numbers go together.

Your engine will be the same as the tractor so no problem there.

i took pictures of everything, and wrote everything down. i didnt realise they were stamped from new! the piston pins have circlips on them, do these come out easy enough?

Note which way round your pistons fit on the con rods then remove the circlips and drop the piston into a bucket of hot water. After about 2 mins the pin will push out with your fingers.

thats a good tip, i am going to try and get them done tommorow so they are ready to go in. Yeah i noted which way the marks faced so keeping them the same should be fairly easy. Cleaned the sump out today, what a mess! there was grit and stones and all sorts in the bottom, took ages to get clean again!

Hi guys,

Here's a little update.

On the last page I told you, that the engine could not be turned all around, because the crankshaft hit the sump somewhere.
Last week it turned out not to be the sump, but the oil line. :?
It's fixed and it turns fine now.

My cousin made some reinforcements on the frame.

I'll keep you updated.

Going to be a nice gathering this year.
I'm not planning to bring mine. Would be a two and a half day drive. :nono:

Thanks, guys!

Meddo is about 100 miles (150 km) from Amsterdam. It's quite a journey, but I know two great persons who have an even longer trip and they are there every year! :D

I have the intention to go, but it depends on the progress of my 6 cylinder. I'll keep you updated.
It would be great if you would be there too with your tractor, Frans!

Pascal,

Silly idea from me.

If you drive half the way and Henk the other half. Then drive to my place and I can take your tractor the last part to Meddo when I'm going to my job. A bed to spend the night won't be the problem I think.

The other weekend the journey the same way back home.

Groetjes met een grote knipoog, (best regards)

Emiel

That rod will be strong in tension, but is it designed to take compressive loads, eg if you have a heavy load on the 3 point linkage and the front wheels off the ground?

Very neat work

Hi Emiel,

Sounds like an interesing idea. :D
Have you already subscribed for Meddo?
Will you bring the combine this year?

Hi Bensdexta,

Thank you.
I guess the frame should do the job.
I am going to use it for hobby, so I don't expect troubles with this frame. Thank you for your concerns.

If there is a shoulder on the rod at the front mount to stop the nuts pulling the rod through, it should be quite strong in compression also.
All the best,

Its going to get crowded at Emiel's place if I bring Dotty! Or should we all meet up outside The Hook and drive across to Meddo in convoy?

OOOOOPS What have I suggested? :run:
