Question about conversion kit

Hello everyone,

We have a Mighty Ford 155 in the shed, which is converted to a 4wd version.

I know it's almost forbidden to come with a red fellow on a Ford-board, but I'm still hoping you will help me. :wink:
I've tried to make it look like a Ford.. :D
Finding much knowlegde about these conversions here, made me registering and give it a chance.

I think this is a Selene conversion, can anyone say if it is indeed?

The tractor didn't steer well and there was a lot of space on the axle fittings, so I took it apart.
I found one bearing, which was really crushed.
Does somebody know an adress for spareparts or a size of the bearings and seals?

Hi Martin, we really need to see the transfer case to be able to ID it, as Selene and Roadless both used the same GMC axles.
Assuming this is what you have any good bearing supplier should be able to tell you what bearing you need by giving them the ID and OD dimensions. Most all of them used a standard off the shelf tapered roller bearing, you should be able to find the numbers on the remaining bearings as well. I don’t remember if there are seals in these, I’m thinking just dust shields and pumped full of grease, but I may be thinking of the County's, I'll see if I can find a print or parts breakdown this weekend.

To get the outer race out you can put a bead of weld directly on the bearing surface of the race, all the way around, when it cools down it will almost fall out by itself.

It's quite easy to determine this tractor has worked on the beach..rust and sand are really everywhere.. :(

As far as I have seen, the differential runs in a bath of oil, with a seal at the edge of the housing.

I'll try to take a look tomorrow to see if I can find some numbers on the good bearing and make some more pictures.
If I have some time left, I'll give it a try to remove the old races from the worn bearing.
What is the best way to remove the inner race of the bearing?

Great tractor!
You could contact Richard Pit in Willemsoord. He knows his thing about Ford conversions and he has a lot of spare parts for them.
He might be able to help you with bearings and stuff.

Are you not taking Marten's word 'Ford" as being a Ford conversion, when clearly it is a Massey Ferguson.
I think his word Mighty Ford actually stands for Massey Ferguson, but wants it to be a Ford, so calls it a Mighty Ford (just like some call their tractors sue or betty etc), as can be evidenced by having been roughly painted blue.

I know there was a firm in England called Eden that did MF conversions as kits. The 155 is not a regular English model, but sounds more like French or European model (like the french MF 130)

As for bearings and seals, any bearing shop should be able to provide bearings and seals by measurement for you.

As Kev pointed out this may be a kit that is unknown to us Fordson guys, but My guess is Roadless, only because of the length of the transfer case, Selene’s for the Majors was much thinner, and County normally used their right angle drive off of the rear axel when using a automotive type front axel.
Regardless the bearings should be obtainable merely by measuring what you have there. the inner race on the shaft should come off with a good three jaw pulley/bearing puller, or it can be cut with a cut off blade on a grinder, parallel with the shaft and most of the way through on two sides, and then given a few good wacks with a hammer and flat chisel in the cut. And use Safety Glasses!!!!!!

You where right about the seals, there is only a O-ring at the end of the shaft.

Yes Kev, it's a MF 155, I hope you understood my wink. :wink:
It's a french build tractor indeed, with the frontend familiar to a 135 and the back is the same as a 165.
I found by google a topic on this forum about a Ford 2000 with a 4wd Selene conversion kit and seeing the reactions on that post, I hoped the people here could help me too.
And I am helped very well indeed!

Hi,
this conversion looks like a swiss made Schindler or Köpfli to me.
I looked at a Massey 135 a couple weeks ago, it should have been the same. Parts are hard to find :( The swiss Company Schuler :arrow: http://mf-schuler.ch/4598.html should be woth contakting.

By the way: thosse conversion kids were used on Ford 2000 and 3000 mainly in alpine regions of central europe

Hello,

I've been working further on the axle and investigating what should be replaced.
I only doubt if I should replace all the bearings or only the worn ones.
I don't really have the right tools for it at home, so I should take everything to my work or a local shop.

Does somebody know if there are still workshop manuals or part books available for these axles?
I have contacted roadless with some questions, but no reaction yet.

Hi Guys!
I'm Stefano and I'm writing you from Italy.
Some time ago I've completed the full restoration of my OM 50R builted in 1958. The tractor is fine but I'd want to Mount on it a 4wd Selene convertion. The Selene convertion builted for my tractor is the same that was mounted on the old fordson super major, as you can see in this pictures......

The difference is the transmission box mounted on the left side of the tractor. In the old fordson, as you know, the box was fixed between the gearbox and the differential while in the old OM (and fiat) the box was fixed in this space......

So, I'm writing here because I'm searching a complete Selene 4wd front axle for my OM 50R (without the transmission box) like this:
