Hydraulic Check Valve Removal

Post by ddoan »

This ought to be fun. I am trying to remove the check valve from the hydraulic lift cover:

The manual gives a "how to" for this one, but says nothing about a "what if." As in, what if the check valve doesn't budge when you try to extract it with needle-nosed pliers? Is this another one of the situations that requires penetrating fluid, heat, and a lot of time and patience?

My Dexta came with a DAR and I'm not sure if it's original hydraulic system worked at all. I'm guessing not. But, I'd like to correct that by getting all of the bits out and all of the ports cleaned before I replace all of the seals, O-rings, and gaskets. If there are any tips on check-valve removal, I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Don

The bit you are taking out is only the cap, it holds a spring, plunger and ball. All that is holding it in is an "O"Ring. You might try to lever it with a screw driver, they can be tight sometimes.

I would suggest you do not try and get the seat out. This does require a special puller that screws int the seat. I do not know if the seat is still available. Later tractors had a shorter seat and a nylon insert but this was not as good as what you have in there now, if it is original.

A correct DAR valve would not affect the working of the hydraulics and the check valve would only give dropping problems similar to a faulty piston seal. You may be giving yourself more work than you need to.

Sorry to barge in here in this thread, but what exactly does the check valve do? I didn't even attempt at looking at mine on my super major since someone had been nice and almost stripped the hexagon head off the retaining screw/plug...
