County Sea Horse

Post by michael dyer »

Very interesting article in this march's Farm Contractor and Large scale Farmer; one and half page article with 3 B&W photos of a floating County (1962) modified Super-4 and may be a Super-6, both marketed as the County Sea Horse.

It had over size 23.1/18-26 tyres to aid floatation, together with fore and aft air tanks that on dry land could be ballasted for extra weight with general modifications all round to prevent the ingress of water. The tyres acted as giant paddle wheels but they reveresed the treads as on testing it went faster in reverse.

It appears that one even crossed the English channel as a publicity stunt.

If any body is interested please send me a message and I will e.mail a scan of the article.

flick from 2010:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZkXvMqM ... re=related
"In a charity fund raiser for air ambulance, Martin Fernihough takes his County Sea Horse tractor across the Bishampton lake"

This one seems to float a little lower than in the original trials, for which the tyres were put an backwards for improved water propulsion.

Here's a couple more Sea Horse videos. This one seems to run a little better than the other one.
