590E turbo?

Post by Mr. Bob »

I think my 590E is going to have to be torn apart and re-sealed and such. my engine is in a 1975 Ford F250, and there is lots of room under the hood. I would love some extra power, but dont even know if there is an exhaust manifold that has a turbo flange on it, or if I would have to have one built??

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks so much!

Hello Bob,
from my brief experience with these motors, it could be possible that some of the D series Turbo manafolds may fit the 590E, I have thought of this conversion myself in the last week.

Usually turbo engines have a lower compression ratio, but I do not know if this is an issue, as I know later engines had higher compression than 16 : 1 anyway.

There is a film of a Fordson with a turbo on this site, but I don't know if it is a D series engine or not?

Hope this helps in some way,

PS. if you read the section titles "this and that about the 590E" on this site it seems to indicate that the turbo was originally designed for the 590E and was later used on the subsequent models, so it must be the same or very similar.

Mike
