I have a tachometer cable with part number: NH-81807563 (957E-17365D)

My Fordson parts list says:
957E-17365C Tachometer Cable 11/57-62/4
957E-17365A Tachometer Cable 11/60
957E-17365D Tachometer Cable 4/62

As i can see my cable is used to fit a Dexta with a fuel injection pump with mechanical governing (minimec).

My Dexta has a fuel injection pump with pneumatic governing.

Do I have to buy annother cable, or can I use this one?

Jos,
I haven't tried it yet.

It's not easy to fit. First I have to dismount the gear shift levers, the Steering box covers, and the instrument box.

I would be pleased if i knew it is going to fit, before I start the job.

regards
Johan

Today i tried to fit the cable...
-Unfortunately it is too short.

The tachometer cable with part number: NH-81807563 (957E-17365D) is a product with high quality, but does not fit a Dexta with pneumatic governed injection pump.
Propably it will fit a Dexta with mechanical governed injection pump.

Johan,
the pneumatic pump was fitted from 57 up to 62. All the Dexta and Super Dexta built after 62 were fitted with the mechanical pump. So the right cable for your sweety should be 957E-17365-A.

-Are you sure?
As i said from the beginning, according to my spare parts manual the right cable would be 957E-17365C for my Dexta (made in february 1962).

However... Today these numbers are quite unusable.

Do you (or anyone else on this board) know if Ford-NH still have the 36" (915mm) long cable for Dextas with pneumatic governor in stock?
In that case i would be pleased to know the spare part number (NH-number).

// Johan.

Guys,
I bought a 36" cable from Hartmut Lindner last year. The old number is 957E17365C and that is NewHolland 81718522. Hope that will help. So the number 957E-17365-A that I told you is not correct. Stefan

Today the parts dealers are no longer interested to help us with the old machines. We must go to the dealer and bring our own part number. When you go without a number you will get an answer:"No number, no parts!" If their computers went out of work, they must lock their doors. Stefan

Johan,
watch out, my Dexta is one of the fast Dexta from 1959 with pneumatic pump. The number NewHolland 81718522 is for a cable fit to my old girl. Not for Super Dexta! Stefan

Today I've got a new cable.
This one is marked: "NH-81718522".

But... -It don't fit, either.

This cable is about 55" (1397mm) long, and there is no nut in one of the ends.

What have i got?

Hi Folk

I am now needing to buy a tachograph cable for my Super Dexta(mechanical). I have read your comments about the various size and length cables and have to ask why should there be bifferent length cables? I do have a Sparex replacement parts cataloque and the nh part number is the one last meantioned ie.81718522 sparex number is S.75961.

I am also needing to buy a tachometer as my S Dexta did not have one, it had a blank plate riveted to the consol. When I buy my tachometer how do I fix it to the consol?

Look forward to any help thanks.

Regards
Mervyn

Last year i bought a new tach and it came with two "clamps" whick you can tighten with two also provided nuts.
First you put the tach through the hole from the upper side, then you fix it from the inside with those parts mentioned.
Pretty simple fix.
Good luck.

Hi

Thanks for the above information. You don't mention the ring that the tacho fits into stands about 50mm proud of the consol, do I understand correctly that you have fitted your new tacho directly onto the consol without the ring.

Mervyn

No of course you are right.
I forgot that part. And i also forgot to mention the fact that my new tach was just a little bit too big.But a few strokes with a file soon cured the problem.
Have fun!
