I put my new tach on my lady this past week and I know it's not an original, but if I remember right Wayne of Lumber Bridge NC put one on his and it ran alright. My question is how many rpm's is normal. Mine is only going up to 1600. It doesn't sound like it is revved to tight. I'm thinking it needs a little tweeking. What do you guys thingk? MarkIP: Logged |

Mark,You should be at about 2100 rpm. 2200 max. But don't forget, the rev counter you have fitted will be way behind any Ford counter soyou may have to make allowances ------------------ Brian IP: Logged |

Thanks guys, I'm going to have to work on my adjustment screw. I am unable to turn it. I probably will have to cut it off and drill and tap for a new one. I'll let you know how it turns out. MarkIP: Logged |

Mark,Just a wild thought. Have you tried running it with the aircleaner disconnected to see if there could be a restriction? ------------------ Brian IP: Logged |

No Brian I haven't thought of that one, I will undo the air cleaner hose from the manifold tomorrow and see if this helps. As of today I got the adjusting screw cut away and when the motor is running wide open (bumping the stops) it only goes up to 17,500 on the tach. I can tell the motor is capable of more. I can only remember in the last 22 years I have owned her that, only one time have I heard her rev up pretty high, and that was when the diaphram had a hole in it. I had to pull the kill button out almost all the way to get her back home from the farm. Evidently this tractor hasn't been running as many rpm's as she should be, because I've never had a tach to tell. Now that I do, I wonder what the problem is? Got any ideas? I'll try the air cleaner hose tomorrow and get back with you and let you know what happened. See ya Mark IP: Logged |

Brian, you are now my hero. I do have a restriction in my air cleaner. You diagnosed that one (RIGHT ON). She will now top out at 21,5000. I'm going to have my air breather steamed out tomorrow and see if that takes care of the problem. I remember steaming this out once before and didn't notice any changes. I hope it works this time. I'll keep you all posted. When I set it back I'm going to put her on 19,500. I believe that will do it. What do you think?
