hello again all,
can anyone tell me where i can get a supply feed for a hydraulic spool valve on my '64 super dexta?
its going to be used mainly for match ploughing so need hydraulics for top link and in place of levelling box.
is there any way of supplying spool and still have control of up and down lever to raise the plough and adjust the other levers together?
thanks for any help!

What you need is a Dexta DAR valve. This replaces the Aux. Service control on the top of the lift, with a lever and two outlets. It enables the lift to work normally but also allows you to use an external ram on demand.

Why do you need a hydraulic top link? Can't you set in even without it? I think that when you go match ploughing with vintage tractors you should use all the equipment that was found on the farm when they were in full use, none of this modern namby pamby stuff!! (Just joking)

The DAR valve fits both the Dexta and the Super Major. I would doubt if you could get one through the dealership. The best place would be scrap dealers and breakers. There were not a great number of these units sold as things like hydraulic turnover ploughs were not common.

Whilst your looking round for the valve, see if any of the dealers have a depth wheel for a Ransomes TS 82/TS83/TS84 plough. I've been looking for one for some time.

I will also check my contacts for a valve.

Brian,
I've been thinking...
If you fit a DAR-Valve (Double Acting Ram Valve) to a Dexta, you have to remove the flow control valve.

How does the hydraulic lift work without the flow control valve? -Isn't this negative if you want to use the Dexta fore ploughing purpose?

Johan,
I am afraid that is something you have to cope with if you want things like a hydraulic top link. These items were never used in "normal" farm operations but are common in match ploughing circles. They allow a perfect "set in" every time.

If you had a hydraulic turnover plough as Ransomes built for the Dexta then you had the problem.

In my part of the country the lack of a flow control was no real problem as the conditions are sand to medium loam with few heavy patches where the flow control was needed. The heavy land would be worked with a Major/Super Major which was rarely fitted with spool valves. At that time hydraulically powered equipment had its own control systems and fitted into the normal aux. service port. Spool valves/DAR valves only became common in the late 1970's and the later tractors had the flow control built into the system prior to the spool valve tapping or the valves even had their own dedicated hydraulic pump.

However, I have had a photo from GT which I have asked Oscar to post under the heading "3 PT linkage", which shows a single spool valve including the flow control. I have never seen one like it but it looks genuine Ford.

Brian,
-Thank you for the picture!
Someone said to me: "A picture describes a matter better than thousands of words".
-However...
I've posted it here, so everyone can see it.

Johan,

Here is a picture of Greg's valve. You are great at posting them and its something I have not mastered so would you like to post it on the site for me please.

Kind regards

Brian

I guess this bracket is also often used together with the DAR-Valve.
