Re: post hole borer success
Haha, I have decided to relent and create a photobucket account to post the pictures. I'll check the make of the borer, itll be a New Zealand built machine. Generally importing anything into NZ is obscenely expensive due to distances. The handle is a customisation someone before me has added. Id be ...

post hole borer success
Hi, I picked up a post hole borer a month ago and finally got it hitched and tested on my Super major. Took some figuring out as i am a complete novice. The biggest revelation was I had to have the PTO engaged for the rear hydraulics to work (lift). Reading the manual actually helped a lot for once....

Re: Good luck Brian and Oscar
Henk, What great news that the forum will stay up. I have a very eager 2 year old boy and a 50 year old Super Major who both love each other very much. With this forum I know I have some chance of keeping the old girl going. My boy thinks I can fix anything. little does he know I would be lucky to k...

Good luck Brian and Oscar
Good luck Brian and Oscar, I have really appreciated your help over the years. Without your help my tractor would probably be a lot closer to the scrap bin. I will definately be attempting to download the forum offline for future reference. Good luck with your normal life, I know these online things...

Re: fordson Super Major starting issues
Break through! :buddies: :buddies: :buddies: :buddies: :buddies: :buddies: Tractor is as good, if not better than before. All the trouble shooting and maintenance has improved at least the starting, if not the running also. I went through with opening the centre bolt on the lifter pump, and removed ...

Re: fordson Super Major starting issues
Thanks Brian and Bob and a merry xmas to you both. It was exciting this morning that Santa (rather a B & a B) had left more clues. I am learning a lot. I honestly wouldn't have logged on, but for some reason I am awake before the rest of the house, and its too early to open presents. Re the video be...

Re: fordson Super Major starting issues
I just had a thought as I was lying in my bed visualising the next steps in my trouble shooting. Instead of pulling the pump apart, perhaps I should pull the lifter apart first. When she first ran out of fuel, before all this starting/running calamity, something strange had happened. I filled the di...

Re: fordson Super Major starting issues
Slowely chippin away at the possible causes, and through deduction I am guessing the pump needs to come out... maybe after xmas... Tonights test https://youtu.be/OFedJby_XoU Example of her running properly last month, quite a different tractor, how sad:( https://youtu.be/qbgCJnQwPos Brian, I dumped ...

Re: fordson Super Major starting issues
Hello Blackbob, Yes the videos were more for the sound so you could hear the 'lovely' diesel tones! Although there is a nasty knocking sound in the engine. Wish I could confirm that my timing is definately 23 degrees but I only have these random serial number shots which I can't match any lists yet....

Re: fordson Super Major starting issues
Great news tonight, She is starting again. WIth a new fuel filter I had a go at starting her normally and she made some promising firing noises but didn't quite start. So I then added some squirts of ether into the air intake she came to life. Initially I had to keep tapping on the ether injection t...

Re: fordson Super Major starting issues
Thank you both. I am learning lots of new tricks. Thats what I love about this 'older' tractor. Its simple enough I have a chance to figure her out. My 'playing' with the timing while guessing had only retarded it by 1 degree. So I have now re-adjusted the timing back to 23 deg where she started. Th...

Re: fordson Super Major starting issues
I have been retracing the events leading up to her not Starting. I am pretty sure I ran out of fuel just before the trouble with loosing power. So now I am thinking that even though I have bled the fuel lines, I am thinking the filters may just be gumed up enough to prevent enough flow/presure to ge...

Re: fordson Super Major starting issues
I am having difficulty figuring out how to manually turn the engine over. I am guessing I need to try and get to the front of the engine block and turn the flywheel manually? There is a lot of stuff in the way at the front like the radiator etc. But this is the best way aye? I though of trying to ju...

Re: fordson Super Major starting issues
The adjustment I made was to very thin bolt with a lock nut, on top of the injector as you described. Its really good to know I can leave that alone and fine re-adjust that later.

Re: fordson Super Major starting issues
Thanks Brian, I had not been thinking the timing would be an issue, so thanks for the guidance. I'll let you know how I get on. I guess through deduction if fuel and air are getting through, then timing is the next cab off the rank. This would account for steady decline in power and not firing consi...

fordson Super Major starting issues
Hi, I have a ford super major and it has been a super starter and runner for the 5 years I have owned her...until now. The last couple of times I used her she was having rev/power problems. I had to really pull the throttle to get her to run at all. Sounded like she was starved of something. I did h...

Re: Starting problem and ran out of Diesel!!!
Yeah the good thing about the fencing pliers is its stubby head could fit into where the solenoid was. I am in Canterbury, home of the big shake. Do you know it? Just drove past your area a couple of months ago for field days. The tractors there were too big for my wee tractor!

Re: Starting problem and ran out of Diesel!!!
Big thanks from NZ to whirly and halloween. Between you both all my problems have been solved! I couldn't find the corresponding bleed valves on the injector unit. But looking at that diagram I decided to bleed the inlet side of the fuel filter (my previous attempt was just on the outlet side). Heap...

Starting problem and ran out of Diesel!!!
Hi All, My beloved 60's super major won't start. Its a long story, but I ran out of diesel, and after refueling, I bleed the air at the fuel filter. Couldn't find a bleeder at the injecter unit. Was turning over strong with the starter moter, but really didn't sound like any fuel was getting through...
