Re: RAF fordson standard N gearbox

30mph might be an extension.

I've no experience with the N tractors, but my E27n with high ratio gear box (7.7) moves down the road just a bit too quickly at full throttle.

I can't imagine an N at that speed.

Re: Magneto trouble

If I recall correctly, A bad bobbin on my RF4 measured just less than 5K ohms A replacement bobbin (that actually would start the tractor under good conditions) measured right around 7K ohms. The RF4 is in a box on a high shelf in the shop, along with the many many dollars worth of repair and replac...

This is on an E27n Major?

There is a lot of fluid in the rear dif, get out your big pans and buckets for when you get that plate free.

I've got one for you.

It will set you back about $10k plus cartage. It comes in it's original packaging! (the tractor surrounding it ;-)

Te head lamp housings fitted to add on SNOW PLOWS are a close enough approximation of the original pattern for me. Now those crooked bent mounting arms that fit in the square tapered holes are a thing again. By the way, ever noticed the convenient hex opening in the radiator side casting for holding...

Re: E27N Waterpump gland packing

I was holding back, but yes, just a greased length of string. I've got cotton string well rubbed with graphite mixed water pump grease. Making sure the gland nut spins comfortably in it's threads goes a long way to getting a good 'feel" when tightening up. By the way, I use "water PUMP grease" for t...

You know, she just doesn't get as much chance to show her stuff as she did when she was the only tractor on the place. Now with the attractive and agile Italian (SL&H, Hurlimann) to call out for chores, it seems like I need to find special music to get her out dancing. Plus, for myself, the climb up...

It was one of those days. The early part was spent stacking cord wood. The load of logs is now completely rearrange into 4 foot lengths. Waiting to be cut in 1/2 and split for fuel to be burned in 2018. But, that meant getting out the splitter, which was parked behind the Fordson. Both under cover i...

Hydraulic pressure tap on single lever lift?

Have any of you done anything with this feature?

I can imagine a dump trailer, after chaining down the lift arms.

Any calls on the pressure and flow rate (both ways)?

TIA

Re: Rear Wheels

I have read, that some/many/most E27n that went to Australia were supplied sans wheels, to be fitted locally by the Fordson dealers.
This practice may have been common for any export.

So wonder no more. It is common to see different wheels on Fordsons

Re: e27n single lever hydraulic lift

Put some weight on them! ;-) Alternatively, if you look carefully at the base of the operator arm (hand control lever or what ever you choose to call it), you will see a headless screw with a stop nut. Loosen the nut and back off the screw a turn, and the lift levers will likely fall unloaded. That ...

I wish I could advise. My own E27n had the port plugged with a bolt when I got it. On removal of the bolt, The threads were nearly gone. I chased down with 3/8ths NTP, and set the "late model" Stainless Steel, 90 degree angle, 0-240 degree F, thermometer in with sealant It works a treat. I even have...

Needing info on toe in for best steering effort E27n

The front end on my E27n (Row crop with adjustable axle) has been "hard" ever since I re-bushed the spindles. I've considered adding power assists as much as an engineering nightmare that would be. Up on jacks, the steering is light as a feather. I need to widen the front one notch sometime soon, an...

I don't have a New Major, nor ever repaired an engine for one, but I did rebuild my E27n (poured babbits and all) What I do know is, If you have a loud knock, it's the bottom end doing the knocking, and that means pulling the engine out to remove the crank from the block. Just dropping the pan will ...

Those who have gone before?....

My E27n most likely came down from Canada I got it while living in the North of New Hampshire. Pity, the previous owner died of heart failure at an early age. Mine is straight gas. It works very well with our cold winters. It never fails to start, though I admit to using "starting aid" when the temp...

I'm pretty sure that Fordson didn't supply torque settings for any of the fasteners on any portion of the E27n. The mechanics were expected to use common sense. But there could be opportunity to consult torques values for similar sized fasteners in similar applications for those who had not develope...

Not quite sure what you want here. Are you going to fab up the electrical box mount and need dimensions? It's just a sheet metal triangle about 4 inches wide. Regarding the "amperage", more is never too much! Just give it a 12V battery that fits the platform!. Remember to disengage the 3PH hydraulic...

I'm sure you don't need to disconnect anything.

Just a jumper between BAT and Field at the regulator will do. Our E27ns are positive earth, but that's all covered at the regulator terminals.

An internet search will provide hours of confusion... but worth the trip.

Yes, When the frame for the front snow blade went on, It made hand starting impossible. I had only hand cranked for the prior 20 years. Plus, the self contained Western plow hydraulics needs a good battery and charging system. Combine that with the frequent need to push snow during wintertime darkne...
