Re: Power Steering Question
Mounting on the opposite side of the tractor should not make any difference on the operation of the assist cylinder. Personally, I would try to mount the whole thing, if it is serviceable. Will he lend you one to try? Where in Ontario are you? Cheers - SR Only about an hour north of you - just outs...

Power Steering Question
I’m looking to rebuild the power assist steering on my Super Major. The previous owner had tried at some point, but ended up making a mess of it. Now it fights you more than assists. Parts are hard to come by around here, but I know a local farmer who has 3 complete setups off of a 1060 Nuffield. Be...

Power Steering Question
I have a super major with factory power steering. Lately the power steering seems to be weak in both directions. There are no external leaks. We haven’t done a pressure test on the pump, but it appears to be working as the pressure line jumps as you turn the steering, just doesn't seem to be any pow...

Two more tractors bought today
We acquired two more majors today from two different guys. This power Major my dad remembers as a kid as it was bought brand new by a neighbour of his. It was only used for 10 years on a 100 acre farm, when it was sold to a marina in Bayfield Ontario to dock boats during the summer months in Lake Hu...

Re: FMD dropped a valve
Thanks for the help guys. I finally got around to pulling the head off today expecting the worse and was pleasantly surprised at what I found. http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/b462/2l8iwin/100_0780_zps0897a662.jpg http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/b462/2l8iwin/100_0784_zps6e3fd31f.jpg http://i1...

FMD dropped a valve
Last weekend I got my ‘59 FMD out to work up the garden a bit. When it was cranking over, it had kind of a funny sound like a valve was hanging up. It fired right up though and ran like a top like it always does. The tractor has never been over 1800 RPM and my Dad was just idling around with the scr...

Re: Fordson Industrial Motor
JC, the heat houser does do a pretty good job. Just the windshield alone is nice to duck out of the wind. Adrian, It does take a lot of power if the snow is wet and heavy. Sometimes more than what the old girl has, so that's why I am looking for a bit more. I've been told that the industrial motors ...

Fordson Industrial Motor
I’ve found an industrial Ford motor out of a log skidder and the price is right –its free. I was wondering if they are more than 220 cubic inches or more horsepower than a stock new performance Major? If so, I was thinking of putting it in mine, as we have a had a lot of snow this year and could alw...

Re: power major aux hydraulics modifications
The three point hitch arms on my FMD always leaked down immediately. We decided to take a chance and change the tower rather than trying to replace the seal. The guy at our local tractor wrecking yard does not have a real love for Majors – even though he has a pile of them. He wanted $150 for any to...

Changing to double acting remotes.
I have a 1964 Super Major and am looking at changing the single remote hydraulics to a double acting one. Just wondering if any one else has done this and if it is as straight forward as it looks (4 bolts or so and a simple switch over). Also I was wondering if any one can tell me what the levers an...

FMD Glycol leak
My 1957 FMD has a small water (glycol) leak from where the throttle shaft goes through the block on the generator side of the engine. Sometimes it leaks a lot, sometimes it will hardly even drip. Just wondering if any one knows a cause and cure for this problem? Thanks.

Re: Raised PTO
It is from a '59 Power Major. It has a 33 spline gear on the long shaft that drives the pump. The one in the picture on my Major is not the exact one I am selling. It was also from a Power Major though, but I swapped the pump gear from the old PTO shaft to the raised PTO shaft.

Re: Raised PTO
The reason the guards are off is because they are loose and make an awful noise and are a pain to get the PTO on and off. I am always very cautious around it. If I happen to plug the blower or break a shear pin I not only shut the PTO off, but the tractor as well. Thanks for your concern guys.

Raised PTO
Hi I have a raised PTO for a Major I may be interested in selling since we already have one on each of our New Majors. I am open to offers pending the price of shipping. I live in Ontario Canada, so make me an offer, and let me know where you are located. Thanks. http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/...

Thanks for the kind words guys. You are all right, the loader tractor is just a plain Fordson Major Diesel with a tach and hour guage. My dad stuck the "super" sticker on the loader frame as a joke. Winchester - Here are a few pictures of the loader controls I took a while back. It is a Davis loader...

Hi I recently came across this site and found it interesting and informative so I decided to sign up. As I see most new users do, I thought I had better introduce myself and our tractors. The first 5000 is the newest addition to the collection, the loader tractor we have had for 15 years, and the 50...
