Re: New Major oil leak after trans being split
Hi Rick, This sounds like an efficient way to cure it. Will give it a go, but not for a while, as I have heaps of other jobs to do. I was able to get her under cover again, so while there with an ice-cream container, all is fine. Hey used to drive a S1 Landy when I was a kid, on my parents 620 acres...

Re: New Major oil leak after trans being split
Thanks Rick and Brian, The leak is due to the tractor being split. The mechanic did not return my calls and seems to no longer be in business. Annoying as I never received any receipt to show the work done. I might give your idea of a partial split a go Rick, but down the track. Will keep using the ...

Re: New Major oil leak after trans being split
Thanks Ronald,
You have made a very good point and yes possibly this liquid repair is not ideal. For now I will stick with the ice cream container. Will fix it at some stage.
Thanks very much again, Dave.

Re: New Major oil leak after trans being split
Thanks Ronald,
I am unable to do the split by myself. So probably will keep using the ice cream container for a while, just need to keep her out of the rain. The liquid Pavel has suggested is not a liquid gasket but a gasket sealer, so it is added to the oil
Thanks again, Dave.

Re: New Major oil leak after trans being split
Hi Pavel,
Yes it is the main casing that is leaking.
That stuff reads as though it could be the fix. Only thing is it'll be 2 x$88 as I'll need 2 litres considering the 40 litres of oil.
Will have a think, out of work presently so spending cautiously.
Many thanks, Dave.

New Major oil leak after trans being split
G'day folks, Just wondering if there is any gunk I can buy to stop oil leaking from a bad seal. My mechanic split the tractor at the back to renew the two oil seals. He used some blue stuff to create a new seal, but after this I was left with an oil leak of about a litre a week. I have been using an...

Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
G'day folks, Just had a call from my mechanic.... she's ready to get home :D :D :D :D Ended up getting a PTO box from a wrecker in South Australia, but initially the wrong one was sent to me... from a Power Major... more $$ with freight to change it over. All I needed was the casing, but with gears ...

Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
Thanks Pavel, I am in touch with both these companies as well as a wrecker on Gumtree .
I am also asking about wheel guards and floors as mine are buggered .
A small fortune is going into this tractor so maybe I should make it look a bit better.
Thanks again, Dave

Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
Hi again folks, Saw my mechanic this morning and the cracked PTO housing. The crack is across the corner of where the PTO selector actuator bolts on. So the actuators mounting plate is buggered too. Rivets have been used to hold it on. I'm chasing these parts with some wreckers now, but have none lo...

Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
Hi folks... well I won't say G'day .. as for me it's not :( Just had an SMS from my mechanic... when he was pulling the PTO gearbox off the main box to get to the seal easier, he found an old crack where the selector lever is mounted. This is a big oil leak and someone has tried to patch it with fib...

Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
Hi Adrian, Very valuable info...thanks... the tractor is split, but I do not think he's exposed the upper seal as yet. I'll email him your opinion. I'll be rapt if this is it. No pics as it's a one hour round trip to the tractor. I've no spare time. Thanks heaps again, will let you know what happens...

Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
Hi all, Just an update. My tractor is still at the mechanic's workshop. I've allowed him a fair bit of time, as we've had the wet season here, a time where my tractor is too heavy for the ground. Things are drying up now though. He has replaced all the bottom end bearings, including the mains and ha...

Re: Pictures from Australia
When I was a kid we had a NH baler, pretty sure it had a 2 cylinder Wisconsin on it. I remember the solid metal wheel to start it. Always thought why would the PTO not be used....... oh well.... I was thankfully not involved with starting the Wisconsin.

Re: Leak between the Rear End and Transmission?!?
G'day folks, I'll soon be getting my April 57 Mk2 split for the oil level fix. Just want to clarify parts... The gasket between the two housings. E1ADDN4507 seems to be no longer made :?: if so need to make one. The PTO seal. Part I see is 81717957 which replaces E1ADKN7297A suits my tractor. This i...

Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
Hi Adrian, Thanks for your thoughts. I'll talk to the mechanic to see how much extra labour he reckons there'd be. I see the full rebuild kit is not that costly, although I don't need the top end seals, etc. It's a case of avoiding too much more cost.... but I understand what you're saying. If the e...

Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
Many thanks Adrian, She's off to the mechanic hopefully on Monday. He'll be doing a bottom end check of the engine as Pavel suggested, I just hope he doesn't need to go further..as in engine out. Will advise the outcome when it's all fixed. My thanks to all on this list. Really have appreciated the ...

Hi folks, Just a quick question as the tractor will soon go off to a mechanic. What part numbers or where do I get the two seals for the PTO and main drive...ala for when the gearbox and rear diff are split :?: Also can I buy a gasket or does one need to be made :?: Many thanks for your help, Dave.

Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
Hi Pavel, Thank-you so much for your reply. I'll still take it to a mechanic, probably the guy that can examine it before parts are ordered. This is due to me having other projects to do.... elec brake controller and Anderson power outlet into my Jeep and also installing Anderson plug, batteries and...

Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
Thanks for the encouragement Pavel, greatly appreciated. Yes, we'll be forking out thje $$$ to get the engine fixed. I met a guy yesterday that is a tractor mechanic. I'm strongly thinking I'll get him to do the work. He tells me that the gearbox oil into the rear diff is a problem also with Ford 30...

Hi Adrian, Really appreciate your offer of help. Would you like a few weeks holiday in Darwin :?: ... bring your family... Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
Hi folks, Thanks for the info Adrian. I'm finding the vibe from mechanics is to walk away from it.. :( Spent A$2,000 on it so far in parts and oil, plus it cost me A$3,300 to transport it and a slasher here from my sister's place. The work needed I cannot do. It seems it would have to go to a worksh...
