Re: Forward pointing pto shaft
Hi Adrian. Sorry, I thought you had a shaft on your Major. I have never powered anything with the shaft on my Major because I have yet to discover what it actually powered in the past. I have had a few suggestions thrown at me like a roadbrush or a mid mounted mower and I have seen pictures of mid m...

Re: Forward pointing pto shaft
Hiya AdrianNP. I have a 61/62 Super Major with the same type shaft as yours. I asked on here before but we didn't come up with any definite answers. Brian was on his travels at the time so maybe he'll be able to enlighten things this time round. Grani has a similar shaft on his Major too. I'll try t...

Re: Reciprocating Hedge Trimmer
Hiya Chug. I've come across a much clearer set of photos than the one in my old brochure. If you go to www.donedeal.ie and search for "mcconnel fingerbar hedgetrimmer", there's a fella there with one for sale. It has really good photos of the parking stand and also the proper safety guards. And he h...

Re: Frontwheel lining
Hiya Henk. I don't know if this will help but could you try slackening the bolt on one of the spindle top arms and lifting the arm off and sit it back down on the next spline in whichever direction you think is correct? I hope this makes sense as you read it. Moving the arm one or two splines should...

Re: Reciprocating Hedge Trimmer
Hiya Chug. Removing the trimmer like you describe will work fine. There is an actual stand for the trimmers but again is hard to come by with a lot of them. I was lucky enough to get one with the one I bought. It is basically a one piece stand with two legs coming up from two flat feet. It is positi...

Re: Reciprocating Hedge Trimmer
Hiya Chug. Congratulations on finally getting your hands on the Power Arm. I spotted your video on Youtube and have only copped your post here now. Your Power Arm is running and looking really well. I know it's too late now but the proper colour is a kind of turquoise green with the safety covers pa...

Re: Super Major pto shaft
That's an interesting Super Neilarmo. Am I right in thinking it's unusual to find lift arms on an industrial tractor? That shaft looks very similar to the one in the photo posted by Grani. I wonder does Brian recognise it from Dagenham? Pat, a fella told me before that the shaft was probably used to...

Re: Need pushrods for '59 major
Sorry Datadawg, I read your post completely wrong. It's pushrods you are looking for. I picked it up as valves. I think I need an eye test! Sorry. Pat.

Re: Need pushrods for '59 major
Datadawg, try Agriline's site. They have exhaust and inlet valves for all majors and also the earlier type valves. And loads of other lovely stuff too!

Re: Super Major pto shaft
Grani, that shaft is very similar alright. Do you have any idea what that type was used for? Nick, I was thinking along the same lines as you because if an implements shaft threaded up onto the threads, surely in use it would tighten up so much that it would be a hell of a job to remove again (or wo...

Re: Super Major pto shaft
Now gentlemen, here are the photos of the shaft on my Major. As they say, a picture says a thousand words! Hopefully some of you will know something about it. Thanks. Re: Reciprocating Hedge Trimmer
That hedgetrimmer in your photo is a McConnel Power Arm Universal with the optional reach over extension...and a very complete one too!! It's extremely difficult to find one with all the safety covers and the valve chest intact. They are adjusted by means of 2 rams. The big black ram with pulley on ...

Re: Super Major pto shaft
Hi john.n. I thought myself that it could have been for a mid mounted mower too. But they would be more popular on the continent than in England or Ireland (the Major was originally English but is now on the east coast of Ireland). I have checked out a lot of other Majors at various shows and have n...

Re: Super Major pto shaft
Hi Bearcreek Majors. From one Pat to another!! Yeah, that's correct, the shaft faces forwards. I was only ever told that it may have been used to power a front mounted roadbrush. I'd love to find out exactly what it did power because if it was a front mounted implement I would try to pick one up and...
