Re: Engine Oil

Been to Alberta this year and was told about your extremes compared to Holland. A straight SAE 30 is not suitable for your wintertemps, wonder what is in the original Ford manual about this, Suppose something like 10W-40. The lube oil system of a that 4 cyl Ford engine is excellent, and oil pressure...

Re: Can oil pressure be too high?

Had a similar problem after a complete overhaul of my 59 Dexta. The new pump was an original delivery from Perkins, but required the piping modification. After start up with SAE 20 run in oil had a leaking seal of the oil filter housing. . Checked the oil pressure with a gauge in the port for the el...

Re: Fordson Dexta oil in exhaust manifold

Worked some years on International tractors . Some were used with a vacuumpump for milking in the field , so hours of idling in stead of working. This sort of tractors came in the workshop with lots of oil blowing from the exhaust. We run these with Shell Ensis SAE 20 for about 3 to 4 hours under he...

Re: Single Clutch Dexta

Had this problem with my Dexta, found that clutch plate did not slide easy over shaft splines. Cleaned and polished splines, lubricated with a small amount of molykote anti-seize compound and works allright . This stuff is only ok when used sparingly, in contact with the clutch plate linings you end...

Removed nose bonnet, measured distance LH and RH side from bracket to front axle and found LH side bigger distance. Brought it back with some hammerblows till distance LH and RH was the same and nose bonn...

Re: oil in exhaust

Had this problem as well. What make pistons/piston rings did you use? In my opinion the oil temperature is no issue when the cooling system is running normal temp. Running the engine without thermostat is very bad! As Brian says HD 30 or 20W/30 is the best oil for your Dexta engine , and work it har...

Re: clutch bind

Had clutch bind trouble with my 59 Dexta (no live drive) Trouble caused by corrosion on splines of gearbox input shaft and in clutch plate hub. Plate was very difficult to slide on axle.
Cleaned axle and plate hub splines and coated with Molykote paste type G , This cured my problem .

RE steering worm nut: inside must be machined but through hardening process afterwards material looks blue black. You better check how it fits to worm shaft. Hole in steering worm shaft? Is there hole in center to top connected to this hole, then I think it is to help passing oil to bottom of steeri...

Replacing the outer seals is a lot of work. Replacing the inner seals may cure the problem. Have done this job on a Fergie 35 , construction is same as on Dexta also size of inner seals is similar.
