Re: Governor Control Lever Return Spring Petrol Major

Governor Control Lever Return Spring Petrol Major

Does anyone have the specifications for this spring? It is the one inside
the housing. Ford lists it as part no E12CL9.

Thanks in advance

New to me March 63 Super Major

Good morning all... I picked up my next rescue project last week and the first problem to deal with is problem in transmission. It will only roll freely when in neutral with clutch depressed. What is stuck? Where should I look first? FYI - Casting date codes from Feb-20 to Mar-27 1963 and painted cr...

Petrol Carb Gasket Set

Does anyone have a source for gasket sets? I have made quite a few over the years but
never started with one that was complete so just guess where the internal holes should
be.

Thanks in advance

Re: Parts in Canada

You can purchase push rods thru Moody's NH ...I seem to remember they were same as Ford 302 but don't quote
me on that...maybe someone else can confirm?

Re: Petrol Major governor not working

Hi Bob, Thanks for reaching out... Yes the control lever has no effect on RPM...I can move the linkage on the carb directlty to change RPM but is not governed. After 10mins it generally starts to work but not always I think the issue may be related to the spring length and tension in the governer un...

Petrol Major governor not working

I know this has been discussed before but couldn't locate on this or the old forum... I have a petrol major (~56) that has no throttle response to inputs from the operator lever when cold. The rod thru the engine is free and it does correct itself when warm most of the time...What's wrong? When it w...

Re: Need pushrods for '59 major

...Not sure where you are but NH has them in Canada ($8 each a
few years ago) ...

I seem to remember reading somewhere that they were the same
as the Ford 302 V-8...Can anyone confirm this?

The only part of the Major I don't like is the weight of the sump!

I used 2 small ratchet straps under the sump and around the loader arms to raise and lower...worked perfectly.

Gerry,

The engine other than this issue appears in good condition....starts well, minimal smoke at startup - clearing
in 20 secs, good power and no problem with blowby.

The governor operation is too sharp so I don't think is a diaphram issue but will do a physical inspection to be sure.

I see this topic has been up several times but the hunting bothers me... What possible adjustments can reduce? I have verified diaphram is good, airways are clear and gauge filter is clean At start up the "hunting" stops in less than a minute but after it is worked and warms up it re-appears under n...

Replacing axle seals 101

It seams that the axle seals on my dexta need to be replaced...and the brakes renewed.

Can anyone provide step-by-step best practice for this job...

I am not familiar with Dexta internals yet but will be after this...

Many thanks as always.
