Re: power loader possible?
Hmm, thanks for the responses. Sounds as tricky as I'd feared! Does the Super Major come with the necessary gubbins?

power loader possible?
I have a 1957 Major ( from the period where the switch to the Power Major was happening). It has a Horndraulic trip-loader fitted, but I was wondering if it's possible to modify anything so that I could fit a power loader and pallet forks. I bought a J**n D***e some years ago with forks but it has s...

Re: '57 New Major hydraulics not holding + more
Well? How did this story end? I massively admire Dave's perseverance with his tractor; he deserves a medal or even better, a proper running Major. And the essay-plagiarist or whatever he is, he can go away.

Re: Diesel Major rear brake shoe fitting
Just been reading this thread with mixed sympathy and "been there" amusement! Did you get the brakes fixed?

Re: wiring loom for a diesel major
Thanks, Brain, I wondered if it was something like that. I only ran the tractor for a few minutes after the transplant, and the ammeter stayed in its customary position, at zero, so I'm not convinced that the battery is being charged although the ammeter could be bust, of course. I don't think it ha...

Re: wiring loom for a diesel major
Well that was easy enough. Tractor even started afterwards, with no fire or smell of hot cable insulation; just have to see if it's charging the battery now. One question - how come the ammeter doesn't seem to have any electrical connection???

wiring loom for a diesel major
Evening, chaps. I am going to swap the wiring loom on my Major for one that isn't composed mostly of breaks, connectors and brittle, discoloured 60-year old wires. My machine is a 1957 "half Power Major" interim model, I believe, serial number 1445620, which makes it almost exactly the same age as m...

Re: Hydraulic response
Thanks whirly. It's just run off the tractor pump, with an isolator valve thing to shut off the loader if the 3PL is needed.

Hydraulic response
Evening, chaps. I have a 1957 Diesel Major, one of the intermediate ones, half diesel major, half power major, which i dearly love despite his faults. There's a Horndraulic loader fitted which I use quite a bit for lifting. I'm just wondering - the loader works fine, really, but i have to move the c...

Re: solenoid issue
Thanks for that, but it isn't an earth, it is to take a lead from, I think, the dash or ignition switch, IMMSMC, and which on my machine has a ring rather than a spade end, and clamps onto one of the HT terminals. Does that make sense? I think my new unit is faulty. Mr Fordson doesn't seem too upset...

solenoid issue
Hi everyone, new member here! My 1957 diesel major is a working rather than show machine, and had a new solenoid fitted when I bought it about 5 years ago. Recently, the faulty solenoid clicking started all of a sudden upon trying to fire him up, and I've had to fall back on the spanner across the t...
