Re: My super major

Very nice SM 5000, It looks like its in great original condition. We had a local Ford dealer back in the late 60's that would pick up any old Major, paint and decal it as 5000 then sell it as such  The old boy that owned the dealership was a sketchy old devil and if you ever did any business ...

Re: Power Major on firewood duty

Thank You Pat, I also would like to offer my deepest sympathy to you and your family for the loss of your father in-law, It can be a hard time to get through. I think the last time you and I talked I was getting this tractor ready for Dad so he could go off to a local plow day. He loved his tractors...

Re: Power Major on firewood duty

Thank you Ben. He was a good man and is sadly missed, He was 91 years old when he died so he had a good long run. I am a dairy farmer and we milk 120 head of registered Ayrshire's so ya there are a few cows around here  Glad you enjoyed the photo's

Re: Power Major on firewood duty

Thanks for the complements Adrian, northern Wisconsin is a beautiful area to live. This Power Major is truly in wonderful original condition, My father brought it home new in late 1959. I could count on one hand the times I have ever seen it set outside for the night. My father died this June so out...

Power Major on firewood duty

Today we thought we would take advantage of a beautiful day here in northern Wisconsin and get some firewood brought in. In the photo's we have one of our Power Majors and our New Holland L-785 skid steer powered by a Ford diesel, used during the Ford / New-Holland years. With harvest time approachi...

Re: Power Major and disk

Hello Joe, I should think that your E1A will have no problem pulling a 12' Kewanee, although I don't know what size disks you have ? My John Deere is 12' with 18" disks. It does a wonderful job and with good ground speed will level in the first pass, I think this is mainly due to it being so heavy. ...

Re: Power Major and disk

Hello Guys, I generally disk in 3d or 4th gear depending on soil conditions, I prefer 4th when possible, the faster you can run along the better job it does of tossing the ground. The disk is set on the most aggressive setting and it does make a Major work. If not for the loaded tires and extra whee...

PTO Drop Box Seal

I recently had yet another drop box seal to replace on one of our Major's so I thought I would snap some photo's and just maybe it would help some other members of the forum out in the process :D . As you can see I personally like to use the genuine New Holland or CNH seal, part # 81717957. I have h...

Re: Power Major & Oliver Plowmaster HD

Thanks for the complement Brian :D He is fine example of an original tractor to be sure, some tractors need to be painted in my opinion and some deserve to stay as they are. Since I have posted photos of this particular tractor others have just confirmed my original thought to leave it just as it is...

Re: Power Major & Oliver Plowmaster HD

Hi Pat, this was more like playing than working, it did plow nice :D I think its going to be at least a couple more weeks before any of the fields can really be worked here, the frost seems to be out but there are a few wet spots in some of the fields but the sandy ground is always the first to come...

Many thanks for the complements :D The corn stalks never give a problem, I run the soil finisher over first before planting and it breaks them up nicely.

Power Major & Oliver Plowmaster HD

Over the weekend I thought we would get the Oliver HD Plowmaster out and get the moldboards scoured up. Good sandy corn stubble ground had them shined up in no time. Took the camera along and snapped a few photo's to share with all my Fordson friends  Hope you enjoy :D http://i40.photobucket.c...

Re: Power Major plow day "touch-up"

Talked to my tire guy today and got some prices for the ones made in India, 16.9-30 mounted with new tubes $1018.00 and for the 5000 the price comes in at $1318.00 because they have to pump the fluid. Coming out this Thursday to put a set on the 5000 and going to hold off on the Major for now, the t...

Re: Power Major plow day "touch-up"

The 5000 is a SUPER good tractor, and so dependable :D . My dad bought ours new in 1974 and has never had a major mechanical problem, only ever been apart once to replace the clutch that I know of. Round the farm here the 5000 is the go to tractor, its not to big or small for most jobs. I think the ...
