Re: Pa's old New Major
UPDATE: It runs! A few days ago I hired another tilt tray truck to bring the new major back the last 220kms to our new house so I could work on it. When we went to get it off the truck into the driveway, it wouldn't budge, left wheel seemingly locked, so I used a large trolley jack to get it off the...

Re: tight crank
agree with the need for some digital verniers to confirm the journal diameter- cheap and very useful to have. The next step, and other side to this is to install the caps with the shells in place, but without the crank in situ, torque caps to spec, and beg/borrow/steal an inside micrometer to measur...

Re: Pa's old New Major
funny you should suggest that- the day we picked it up the tow truck driver told me about another major a few kilometres down the road sitting in a paddock that the owner was willing to part with- haven't checked it out yet- so it begins....

Re: Pa's old New Major
Turns out from decoding the stamped casting/serial numbers that it is a November 1953 build. Good for me though, as I had concerns that if it was an early 52 that I would have to rebuild the existing water pump instead of being able to fit a repro one, but now I can be confident that a replacement w...

Re: Pa's old New Major
it was running when parked in 2006, I have a feeling it should start with a battery and fuel and a lot of winding, but I don't want to attempt it until I have given it a new waterpump and found a good exhaust manifold.

Pa's old New Major
As mentioned in my other thread about the exhaust manifold issue, I have just taken possession of a 1952 E1A New Major petrol/kerosene tractor which was bought new and been in our family ever since, so i thought i'd share some pics. My earliest memories involve my grandfather and this tractor. It wa...

Re: 1952 E1A new major Petrol/Kero exhaust manifold
I'm in Queensland, Australia. Seems we got a few of these Petrol/Kerosene Majors shipped here, relative to the number built. I've sent out a heap of emails to tractor wrecking yards to se if they have something usable. I'm used to scrounging for parts for cars, so this is a little different but all ...

1952 E1A new major Petrol/Kero exhaust manifold
Hello, New to the forum having just acquired my grandfathers Fordson major. It was purchased new by my great grandmother in 1952, so has sentimental value and I want to give it a going-over to bring it back to a servicable condition- not a full restoration though. The first and main issue I have is ...
