Oil pressure problem?
When I start from cold the gauge shoots up to 70-80 but, after a few seconds, drops to 0-20 where it stays no matter what the revs are, then drops back to below zero when I shut off the engine. Obviously I'm worries the bearings aren't being fed enough lube but maybe it's a dodgy gauge. Wishful thin...

Re: 3-point max load?
Food for thought. Sounds like it would be marginal at best, especially if the 940kg figure is at the end of the lift arms whilst the pallet's COG is about half a metre out from there (good point Tim). Reckon I'd be better off spending the money on a braked pallet trolley & make a nice big ramp, they...

3-point max load?
I'm buying pig feed 1 tonne at a time now. They forklift a pallet-load into my van but, when I get home, it's a manual job to haul the bags into the store. If I get some 3-point pallet forks do you think my '53 can lift the load? I've read the Owner's Manual & plenty of other stuff but haven't spott...

Re: Temperature gauge puzzler
Brilliant, thanks for such good replies
Not running for more than an hour at the moment so not really a worry since it's winter, but I don't want to start ploughing in the spring without knowing what the coolant temp is!
Cheers

Temperature gauge puzzler
Hi, I just bought one of these: http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Fordson-Major-Tractor-Temperature-Gauge-/00/s/NDMyWDQxMA==/z/DLEAAMXQk-FRFL9-/$(KGrHqNHJEgFEQIeTnjqBRFL99rNcQ~~60_57.JPG But when I unscrewed the original retaining bolt at the sensor end of the old gauge wire (where it enters the engine case ne...

Re: Running on 2
Turns out that the rod that controls the butterfly on the intake had popped off so very little air was getting in!
Back on, roared into life no problem.
Glad it's not the injectors! Thanks for the advice

Running on 2
Fired her up this morning & the engine only ticked over on 2 cylinders
Easy Start would get all 4 cylinders going but only as long as I squirted it in the intake.
What should I check?
Thanks

How does the fuel tank reserve work?
Reading the owners manual, 2 turns out on the fuel tap gets you most of the tank then, when the engine conks out, you undo it all the way to access the reserve fuel & fill-up at the next opportunity. Does anyone use the tank in this way? I think that's what they intended. Like on my motorbike. The m...

New rear light options?
Hi,
Before I spend the next week trawling eB*y for light clusters, has anyone found any good new ones? Mine only has the brackets on the mudguards where they used to be. Rear-facing red & amber + front-facing white would be nice. LEDs with an integrated flashing circuit would be even nicer!

Re: Jumped out of gear & gearstick gone floppy :-(
Right, I'll take the gear lever housing off again & see if there's any play in the parts that retain the gear lever in the housing (don't think so - it's fairly stiff). I can see how the end of the lever must get worn down (after 60 years!). A blob of grease on the end of it seems like a good idea. ...

Re: Jumped out of gear & gearstick gone floppy :-(
Thanks guys.
Turns out the end of the main gear lever had come out of the socket on the rail that moves the selector forks. Re-inserted & it all works again
Is there any retaining device on the end of the gear lever that is supposed to hold it in the socket?

Jumped out of gear & gearstick gone floppy :-(
Going up a hill in 6th, engine starts to strain a bit, then it pops out of gear & the gearstick goes floppy & does nothing. Managed to get it into 1st/3rd, or maybe the gear slotted in by itself because the stick really does nothing, so I got it home s-l-o-w-l-y which saved calling someone for a tow...

Re: Moving on a Ifor Williams CT136HD
The Alphaline MF31-1000 Battery looks like a good bet then (1000CCA for £99 330x172x242mm) What sort of tyre pressures do you run? The field is half a mile away by road so I guess I'm after a compromise. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/FORDSON-MAJOR-tractor-/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/zC0AAOxyEoFSY6Ic/$(KGrHqVHJDMF...

Re: Moving on a Ifor Williams CT136HD
Thanks guys. I saw sense in the end & we found a 7.5t beavertail locally for £150 so it all went well  It's a good-looking runner with just some details to sort-out, the main one being it needs a battery (the owner didn't want to let go of the one he had for it). What size do most of you use? ...

Moving on a Ifor Williams CT136HD
Hi everyone! I'm intending to move a 1953 using a CT136HD towed behind my van (slowly!). If the Fordson weighs 2400kg & the trailer is rated at 2100kg it'll be overloaded but not too badly. I just wanted to check I've got the weight correct & ask you guys what you think of the idea. It's obviously n...
