Re: fuel filter housing

Hi,

Send it back and find a used one from a breaker. No bleeding, not the right connection is not worth fitting in my opinion.

Re: Old 20's parts..hydraulic O rings...

Hi, Can't say much about the old 20 quality. Used them years ago for E27N parts and they were OK. Think you hit the nail on the head with aftermarket parts for Tractors in general. Most is rubbish with quite a high price tag. Never had any issues with standard o-rings below the aux valve chest on a ...

Re: Dexta motor - what size?

Hi, Is it a Perkins P3 or a Perkins/Ford mix Fordson Dexta engine? The first might have a timing chain, which in itself can be a cause of lots of smoke. In both cases it should be 144 cu in, if not rebuilt somewhere in the past. Then 152 cu in liners and pistons might have been fitted. Rgds Emiel

Re: '57 Major, hydraulic faliures - Opinions?

Hi, Maybe your tractor is fitted with a hpl later in life. Not uncommon for a tractor of that age. Testing the prv is easy. Fit a pressure gauge in the port for a hydraulic line and start lifting with idle speed and see what happens at which pressure. If you don’t reach the design pressure of your s...

Re: Brake actuators - super major

Hi Mathias,

Can't you return these and get the Sparex ones which seems to be the right size? Or other idea, how much wall thicknes is there? Can't you mill the acutator 1,5 mm down on both sides?

Re: My 6 cylinder major

Hi, The 11" is the basic clutch, which acutally is allready quite strong. Back in the day a heavy duty 11" was available, which was later replaced by the 13" really heavy duty applications. THe dual 12" live drive clutch is a littlebit sensitive to abuse, although it still is a quite sturdy design. ...

Re: My 6 cylinder major

Hi, This looks on the photo's like the origial Fordson Major setup. But then it should be an 11" clutch. There was a heavy duty 11" clutch as well on early tractors with a more "black" appearance of the friction material and thicker lining. Then you should have found spacers between the flywheel and...

Re: Fasse valve for SM to run 4 Hyd lines from JD 335 Round Baler?

Hi, First you should find out whether your JD baler is set up for a closed center or open center hydraulic system on a tractor. When open center, then a valve chest with more spool valves can be set up and connected to your original hydrauclics. You should althoug find out whether you need 4 single ...

Re: Leaks.... All over the show!

Hi, 2,3 and 4 are coverd up by Mathias. My recommendation would although not be to remove the belt pulley. It's part of the identity of a 1950's tractor. With a little creativity you can lock the handle to make it safer. For leak 1. The spare parts list for the hydraulic valve chest states 3 0-rings...

Hi, The timing case is bolted to the block (NV3654) The Cover is bolted to the case (NV 253) and the NV2205 is the set of base and cover. For the back plate. I would purchase the right gasket, take it to a Fablab or makerspace, draw it over in cad and cut it out from a thin plastic sheet with their ...

Re: Fordson Super Major

Hi, Looks like your electrical system is not in "ex factory" condition. If you don't use any electrics on the tractor easiest is to disconnect (cut of all wires) everything, including generator. just an earth lead, a cable from negative to solenoid and one from to solenoid to starter. If it then sti...

Re: My 6 cylinder major

Hi, Once had this issue on a John Deere from the 1980's. Imho putting the tombstone under a milling machine or a big bench dril and make the hol round again. Turn a fitting bush on the lathe and press in. Secure with loctite and you should be good to go for another 60 years. Most available 2nd hand ...

Re: My 6 cylinder major

Hi,

Most succes on this type of broken bolts I have is with a welder. Just weld a nut onto it. Large nut, a washer below and weld it red hot and point at the bolt. Let it cool down and easy try to loosen it. If it breaks, try again. Never failed here.

Hi, You're right Shepp. And it is confusing. This is what I found in the manual. An improved P.
