Try not to be too down about it. These engines are tough and will take some abuse...just don't try running it again before you are 100% oil is getting through and the bearings are all ok.
Exactly this. Fully agree.

Re: How to change oil pan gaskets?

Hi, Sandy is right. You need to split tractor at the clutch housing, remove clutch and flywheel ringer to the oil seal housing. It is quite a job, but one can do it with basic tools and common sense. Can’t remember whether the back plate should come of or not, but that isn’t the problem when you’ve ...

Hi,

Did you time the injection to the 20 or 26 degrees mark on the flywheel?

The mechanical should be the 20 degrees setting. The knocking indicates to early injection I think.

Re: So you're supposed to change the oil in your governor - Who knew?

Hi, Your 59 dexta should have an vacuum governor who does not require lubricant. If your engine has been swapped for an mechanical governed type you should do a oil change. To distinguish the two types, the vacuum one has throttle control on the air manifold. The mechanical one the throttle control ...

Re: Fordson Dexta Fuel tap Fueltap - microbes or just dirty diesel?

Hi, These bacteria are very happy in an environment where diesel and water are available. IMHO the only cure is keeping your tank clean. So gauze in funnel, fuel out of clean containers or better from the petrol station directly. Water gets in the tank easily, when temperatures go down there will be...

Hi,

Don’t forget to mark the position of the nut against the gear and count the number of turns to undo the nut. If you reassemble the same then the bearing preload here should be fine.

Setting pre load isn’t difficult but involves a lot of work when you do it by the book.

Hi,

The differences between the sm and npsm have been unveiled very clear. For as far as I know the sm can on cast iron front wheels as standard. The blue grey ones with the pressed steel type.

Re: 1952 Fordson Major Petrol Gearbox rebuild

Hi, Cleaning with petrol is very unhealthy for your lungs and it evaporates, which can cause huge explosions. Not my cup of tea. Usually I take heating kerosene for cleaning. Much safer and works perfect. If you clean when all gaskets and oil seals are away anyway it will do no harm at all. If you d...

Re: Fordson Super Dexta starter bolt?

Hi,

Can’t find exact specs in parts book unfortunately. The diameter is 3/8, so a 3/8-24 UNC of correct length will fit. Do take the right length. A too long gives issues with flywheel. To short might strip out thread in plate between engine and clutch housing.

No pictures of a pan type seat.

Re: Help please!! Battery still on when switch off

Hi, If your wiring is correct I think this is wat happens. The control box does not cut out when you turn of the engine. This means D and F in the control box is not disconnected. When you turn of ignition the wire from terminal D on the dynamo powers the charge light. This one does not light up bec...

Hi,

May be your control box is internally wrong and sends current to the ignition light when tractor switched off?

Thd ignition light and oil light are somehow connected under the dash if I remember correctly.

Hi, My suggestion would be to take the hydraulic top cover of. It’s heavy but you”ll have a clear view on what’s happening inside. If there is more damage inside then it will need to come of anyway and it’s a great opportunity to give the rear and a good clean out. If the nut is of, question is, whe...

Hi,

Had exactly this once on a new major. What indid is rotate the axle 180 degrees. So the broken lug moved from rear bottom to top front.

Was an easy Job to do and looks decent.

Re: Simms Minimec 4696 Injector pump.

Hi,

You’ve upset the injection timing probably.

Phasing is between the element of the pump and doesn’t get upset as long as you don’t change inside the pump.

I’ve no experience with timing a dexta, but it shouldn’t be to complicated with help of the manual.

Re: Hydraulics

Hi,

This means your draft control works, and thus the loader with knob pulled out. Then I think your position control linkage is not adjusted right. Probably worn cam follower.

If you want to have it right, it is an easy fix.

Hi, What Sandy means is this: when the 3pt works with the knob in, the loader should work with the knob pulled out. Does the lift go up when there is load on the lift arms? Or only without load? If the lift works as designed then with the knob pulled out the loader should go up. Good chances your pr...

Re: Hydraulics

Hi, The hydraulic system is quite complexed when you're not familiar with tractors. The 3 point hitch has 2 ways of working; 1st being draft control, qualitrol in Ford language, the 2nd being postion control. You switch between these with the small cast lever below the seat on the right hand side of...
