Sounds good your story. Look forward to a video.

I would not put a tacho on the tractor in your case. Keep it original and you’ve a nice story to tell why it’s impossible.

Hi,

You need washers. New copper or aluminum. Diesel leakage kills your engine.

Re: Hydraulic lift slowly drops

If you replace o rings I would recommend to get proper ones from a cnh dealer. Cheap ones usually don’t have the right shore values and will not seal on the long term.

Interesting what you say about the coolant. What harm will oat do except in one’s wallet?

Re: Our '53 FMD

Hi, Engine completely torn down and the block is cleaned. I found E1ADDN part no's in the main and big end shells and together with the Ford stamps and part no on the distribution gasket it is quite sure the engine has been opened somewhere in (I think) the sixties. Strange enough the old type pisto...

Re: Gearbox refill setups!!

Pto box is a common leak area and removing it gives a good opportunity to check the bearings and clean things out while you’re there. Don’t Forget to check the bearings in the pto box. These are the most vulnerable ones in the gearbox because all water and dirt collects at the deepest part. The gear...

Re: engine/transmission dowel pin question

Hi,

I switch to Dutch briefly. Met spigot bedoel ik het randje op de bus. Die moet je inderdaad niet meten maar de kraag van de bus.

Better to over think and do it right once then do it again.

Have you rotated the liners and measured again? I found that rotating gives other measurements.

Re: engine/transmission dowel pin question

Hi Sandy, as protrusion should be 0,05 to 0,10 mm, would I have to taken action if this is exeed by 0,02 or so? I think you should read this with the accuracy which is achievable with the tools and method given in the manual. Then this 0,02 mm would be within tolerance I think. Do you measure the f...

Re: Our '53 FMD

looks like that engine was overhauled by Ford after Fordson production. Hi Sandy, you make me curious. Why do you think that? Based upon the ford logos printed on the gasket? The part no E1ADDN-6K000C seems to be right according to a parts list on this site, but the info is a bit confusing. It at l...

Re: engine/transmission dowel pin question

Imho it doesn’t make sense to hss as be dowels in different lengths when the differences are only about a mm. I think dirt or rust between the dowel head and the end of the hole is the problem.

Remove clean and refit would be my first step.

That was a typo. 12.4x36 of course. In my eyes 13.6x36 looks nice.

16.9x30 surely is nice.

Re: 1963 FSM rear wheels scalloped or not

Original was the scalloped wheel centre. But the round one will fit and work good. Only change the track width takes more time. Tire size back then was 11-36, which in modern tires is 12.2x36.

Re: 590E engine head problems

Hi Sjors, The old pump easily delivers the opening pressure in the begin of the oil gallery. Did comfirm opening pressure and tested with setting that pressure higher. In an engine Pressure is lost further back near the bearings. Oil pressure is not the same throughout the lubrication system. It is ...

Re: 590E engine head problems

I don’t know the specified acceptable tolerance on the bearings unfortunately. I do have a story about oil pressure and oil pumps. I once had a false stamped set of bearings. I needed 0,030 but they actually were 0,020. The engine ran perfect with perfect oil pressure when cold. After a short while ...

Hi,

Oil pump can be tested for flow according to workshop manual. Did one and was amazed by the volume. Have not seen many fordson pumps but never a worn one.

Re: 590E engine head problems

Did a fmd engine rebuild 2 years ago and had those new con rod bolts and nuts. They’re self locking but didn’t seem to be very useful. We then opted for refitting the old ones with a little drop of thread locking agent. Tractor runs in pulling and it works.

Re: 590E engine head problems

If you don’t find evidence of leakage on the head gasket and you’re sure it was combustion gas causing bubbles I’d start looking for a crack in the head. Pressure testing the head is an option to find any issues. An engine shop should be able to support you if you can’t find anything yourself. Posti...
