Re: Silly quesetion #4 - how big a mower ?

I think 6 foot on a flail mower might be asking a bit much of the engine depending on the height of grass you are trying to cut. Mine will run a 6 foot Tarup drum mower just about in hay crops, but a flail will take more power.

I would say that’s original part. Mine is the same and is a 59 vintage. Mine works fine though

Re: Linkage not lifting fully and dropping under load

Photos were originally uploaded from Photobucket. They have recently requested a large charge for photo sharing and have locked out all pictures until people pay up!
Not willing to do this so need to find a new file sharing site for my photos.

What site are others using?

Re: PTO Shaft Removal

Thanks Charlie

I won shaft on Ebay - cost £46 inc p&p.

Not sure whether to fit now or just to keep in on the shelf as a spare.

Re: PTO Shaft Removal

Thanks Charlie Easy job then. I changed the seal before when I did a major renovation 3 years ago, but I can't remember taking the shaft out, which I must have done. Having recently taken the to off, I could see the oil is still nice and clean, but what is the recommended interval for changing it? I...

PTO Shaft Removal

Hi guys
My PTO shaft is showing some ware on the splines, so implement pto shaft is a bit loose therefore speeding up the ware!

What is involved with swapping the tractor shaft? I have just seen one for sale on Ebay.

Thanks

Martin

Re: Linkage not lifting fully and dropping under load

I have put a few copper washers between the shoulder of the spool valve plunger and the grub screw stop to reduce the valve's movement outwards when selecting auxiliary operation. This works a treat, needed about 5mm. The auxiliary i.e. loader is also working fine with the draft lever dropped into d...

Re: Linkage not lifting fully and dropping under load

Ahah seals arrived today in the post, so able to get on with the rebuild. All back together. Lift height is fine now position pin is rebuilt. The auxiliary service block does need the gasket in place otherwise it leaks oil. So refitted with gasket. Linkage arms still dropping as soon as the auxiliar...

Re: Linkage not lifting fully and dropping under load

Oil level fine, a little over full if anything as I had put a jug full in in the vain hope that this might help. Took top off and position pin is worn nearly half way through - so this is my lift height problem. Welded up the grove and ground it back to shape, easier than replacing the pin! Everythi...

Linkage not lifting fully and dropping under load

Hi all, it's been a long time since I was last on this forum - apologies! In my defence I have a couple of Landrovers and they take up most of my forum time allowance! The dexta on the other hand has been pretty much trouble free since her rebuilt 3 years ago. Now she needs some TLC again! During my...

Re: tipper hydrulics

Well reading this old post, I have just learned something which I really should have known! All these years I have been using the loader, which is tapped off the ASV with the lever always in position control not draft. In fact don't think I have ever moved my draft control except when adjusting the ...

Re: Diesel Leak of fuel pump

Might mine be leaking out more diesel than it should then? On tick over there is nothing, but if I rev the engine I get a constant dripping. Does this point to seals in the pump? I hope not as it was overhauled back in the winter so probably not done more than 50 or so hours since rebuild. If you pl...

Re: Diesel Leak of fuel pump

Thanks
This pipe looks as it would point directly down from the bottom of the pump. Would the loop be enough to stop diesel leaking out.
Talking to Peter Strong he suggested bringing a similar pipe upwards with the opening about half way up the pump body.

Re: Dung Spreader for Dexta

Thanks
I will give the chain wrapping a go next time. A bit of a problem to turn on pto whilst filling because I have to unhitch each load as using the same tractor with loader to fill it

Re: Dung Spreader for Dexta

A follow up to this post - I bought a 2nd hand Fraser Muckmaster 450. 4.5cu yard size. This size appears just right for the Dexta. When it is loaded you certainly know its there, you would want to be careful on any hills  She does struggle a little when you 1st engage the pto as this is full ...

Re: Diesel Leak of fuel pump

I guess it's a kind of breather then. Funny I have noticed a pipe like this one some pumps now you mention it. Don't remember there being one on mine though when I stripped it down last year? Also strange I have not noticed it dripping until now. I think the thread is 1/2" 20tpi?. I will get a male ...

Diesel Leak of fuel pump

I have got a diesel leak from the bottom of my pump. It was serviced by Peter Strong last winter and has been dry until recently. It is a drip that increases with engine speed. It appears t be coming from a threaded hole in the very bottom of the pump. See the picture. Not sure if there should be so...

Re: Dung Spreader for Dexta

Not sure on my dung's bulk density  But it's not heavy stuff like fresh cattle dung from a shed. It is well rotted and has a % of sawdust in it. It tends to be quite dry. It's much lighter than soil, so I am guessing that a cubic metre might weigh 0.5t or 600Kg. A 4 cubic yard spreader is rough...

Dung Spreader for Dexta

Looking at getting a rotary dung spreader. What size would be suitable for the Dexta to handle? Land is level so no issue with weight on hills. What would be the max weight you would be happy to put on the Dexta's drawbar? Power wise I am assuming that 30ish HP on the PTO would drive most smaller sp...

Re: Rocker Cover torque

Interesting idea which must work. I am surprised that the 'carpet' glue can stick the heat and the oil for any length of time? Mine with Hylomar both sides of the gasket appears ok so far. It's clocked up several hours over the last week or 2.

Re: Rocker Cover torque

Thanks Ben That's exactly the same as mine. Also not sure why the long part of the flange is missing. The small bit on the angle is due to the position of one of the head bolts. Think I have sealed mine up now. New gasket and hylomar also let it go off for an hour or so with the gasket in position o...
