Re: 59 Power Major revival
Finally got the clutch assembly rebuilt by an old timer who knows his stuff. I'm rejoining the tractor and having trouble with the last 20mm that needs to bring it back together. I've got a splined tool on the pto shaft (Slowly turning it and trying to mate the 2 halves) and the pto engaged but just...

Re: 59 Power Major revival
192mm and 189mm
I re worded my previous post as it was misleading, the pressure plate faces to the transmission clutch plate are good but the same for the PTO clutch plate are cracked etc.

Re: 59 Power Major revival
Its apart, the main transmission pressure plate looks good on the transmission side and the clutch plate still has writing visible on the surface. The first pressure plate below is the transmission plate side. The pressure plate faces towards the pto plate has cracks and hot spots on both faces and ...

Re: 59 Power Major revival
Thanks Sandy, now I've given it a blow out I can see clutch plate material sticking out the side of the PTO disk, so its coming apart. Just deciding whether to do it myself or give it to a workshop.......

Re: 59 Power Major revival
Definitely a dual clutch, strip it first and see what it's like, new ones are expensive and wrong. http://www.fordson.se/4A_Koppling_Suplement_Verkstadshandbok_001-016.pdf Sandy I'm the same, prefer to keep it original, and its not being worked hard, a bit of slashing and its not heavy stuff. When ...

Re: 59 Power Major revival
Thanks for the input guys!! I just assumed it had the dual clutch as its got the "live" emblem in the grill, didnt think about a possible conversion. Ill take the starter off and see what I can see but I think I'll be splitting the machine. It was fine for a number of years after I purchased it from...

Re: 59 Power Major revival
Thanks to you guys she is now running sweetly on all four cylinders and she has made it up to the shed where I can work on her properly. Now the 2 problems are: 1/. Clutch, with the PTO engaged and I let the clutch out the PTO and transmission both engage together. John said try adjusting the clutch...

Re: 59 Power Major revival
Yes planning to get it onto a concrete floor then split it. Its got the seal problem that lets all the oil go from the transmission to the rear section so will be doing that and I guess axle seals at the same time.

Re: 59 Power Major revival
She RAN today  and sounded pretty sweet!! 2 plungers good, one still sticky, one still frozen, another overnight soak and some more heat tomorrow and see how we go. She is in a dirt floor shed with no access to power currently so if I can jet get her a couple hundred meters things will be a lo...

Re: 59 Power Major revival
PROGRESS!! 3 plungers are now moving normally, only the one towards the front of the pump is still stuck. The rack is moving but sluggish to return. It was the heat gun that finally seemed to do it, after a few days of continually spraying with carbie clean solvent and penetrating fluid alternately....

Re: 59 Power Major revival
Thank you all soooo much for taking the time to reply. This old girl is close to my heart and I don't want this to be her demise..... Once she is running I know I've got an issue with the clutch (only one stage working) and probably hydraulics, but one thing at a time!! https://hosting.photobucket.c...

Re: 59 Power Major revival
I don't know for sure that it does, im looking at an older diagram and I'm thinking if it does its fine as I'm getting fuel into the injector pump from the lift pump no problems.
I'm not too sure where to apply the force to get the plungers moving.............

Re: 59 Power Major revival
Taking the side panel off the pump will allow you to check that the rack is free to travel fore and aft. Could well be stuck. Yep, the rack is not moving and neither are the plungers, the rack seems to be as far towards the rear of the machine as it it meant to go, so that seems to be in the run po...

59 Power Major revival
Hello brains trust!! I parked the Major in the shed about 5 years ago with the 2 stage clutch not working. The problem now is with the Injector pump (not surprising I guess). I've gone thru the fuel system from the tank thru to the injector pump, replaced filters, blown out lines, stripped fuel pump...

Injector copper washers
Can anyone tell me if the power major should have a copper washer on the base of the injector and another one of slightly larger diameter in the base of the injector hole? Meaning the 2 washers are face to face. I had water in the motor and after pulling the injectors to clear it and then re assembl...

Re: Water in motor!!
Thanks, I pulled the injectors and drained to sump, got it back together and running, BUT............. After I had it all back together I found a copper washer on the ground, I was sure that all the injectors had a washer on when they went back in. I pulled them all out again and yep, copper washer ...

Water in motor!!
I stuffed up!! With heavy rain coming and the Fordson in the paddock i put a tin over the exhaust. Unfortunately it did not cover the now discovered hole in the top of the muffler. Result is i believe a couple of cylinders full of water. I am thinking that i will pull the injectors and see wh...

air entering sight glass on fuel pump
I needsome help from the brains trust!! My power major has bubbles coming into the glass on top of the fuel pump, the bubbles are coming from the inlet pipe (or more accurately from the rectangular opening on the tank side of the glass) I am also getting bubbles in the fuel tank. Of course the air e...

Re: Rear Transmission Whine
G'day Henk,
I wont be able to get to it for 4 or 5 days but I will let you know. Since the seal was done on the shaft I have only engaged the PTO to lift the slasher, it has not done any work so has not been engaged whilst I am moving.
Regards Russell.

Rear Transmission Whine
Hello Brainstrust, Hope u are all well and feeling knowledgeable!! Recently I removed the PTO extension shaft in order to replace the seal. Now it is all back together, lovely, no more leaks, BUT, I have developed a pronounced whine from the rear transmission. It was noticable before but now it is q...
