Re: Thread stripped on fuel bleeder

Only just noticed this Brian, to avoid having to use too much torque on the bolt, heat the copper washer to red heat, hold it there for 10 seconds or so then drop into cold water, this will anneal i.e. soften it so it will conform and seal with less torque, always good practice if re using Cu washer...

Re: ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

Thanks for all your assistance Emiel from myself and Farmer David Today's expedition with a variety of what 'might' be the wiring diagram concentrated on the broken wires from the battery sensor, with the aid of a bulb on a flexi and mirror on an old telescopic radio aerial I eventually found where ...

Re: New user, new project

Hi and welcome to the forum Dave's concern was not the absence of wheel but the stack of building blocks supporting the weight, if you have not actually seen a stack of these under minimal load suddenly disintegrate without warning you will not appreciate the warning - timber or steel is safer :) Yo...

Hmmmn, in England if something is said or written in a complicated manner it is known as 'Double Dutch' For some reason my last post appears to have been written in 'Double English' by the appearance of it twice !! Re: ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

Down to the farm yet again but with a crowbar and head torch, lifting the battery showed a circular 'thing' in a hole in the tray, ferretting about underneath this is clearly the often mentioned sensor, complete the broken remains of two wires, not easy to see but it looks like they entered the loom...

Re: Fordson Super Major

Dynamo field coils is a likely candidate, especially if ignition switch / and / or regulator relay have welded contacts.

Easily checked, take the small wire off the back of the dynamo.....

Re: ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

Thanks Emiel, I am going to have another look for a battery sensor as several things I have read hint at this being a regular problem - need to have the battery right out of tray, the loader may have got in the way, the info on trying a 200 ish ohm resistor as a substitute is the only 'get around' I...

Re: ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

That's what I'm trying to do Emiel, I can't see any sign of a separate sensing module and am fairly sure there is a broken or poor connection, hence wanting a wiring diagram - hoping no one h :scratchhead: as done a 'cut & shut' repair in the past

Re: ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

Hi Emiel

The ignition light does not come on at the 1st key position but I have separately tested the bulb which is OK so discounts that as a problem.

I'm amazed I can find no wiring diagram on the web, perhaps it was not a very popular model ?

ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

Hi Folks, trying to help my neighbour out with a problem on his Ford 4600 about 1976. Has a Lucas alternator with something called battery sensing ? 2 wires in addition to the 'power' plug, one in a socket marked 'S' runs back to a stud on the starter solenoid and appears to be permanently at batter...

Re: Low engine revs

I recently changed the diaphragm in my governor which has knocked about 1500 rpm off the top speed, have been waiting awhile in case it needs to soften up but getting fed up now and about to refit the original, beware aftermarket parts made in the land of verynear is my conclusion ;(

Re: Major muffler

Running with no muffler will cause little or no trouble with a Major, unlike a coked up exhaust which is likely to cause crank case pressurisation! I'd disagree with Hywel's when it comes to some two stroke engines, where a precise amount of back pressure may be necessary for correct scavenging and ...

Re: '57 Major, hydraulic faliures - Opinions?

You need to check the pressure relief valve works, normally when the lift gets to the top with the engine a lowish revs you may notice a short drop in speed the hear the sound of the valve venting inside the top cover, if you don't and the engine struggles then the PRV is probably stuck or not venti...

I've just bought a litre of the EP00 liquid grease as discussed elsewhere and now widely used for Series Landrover steering and relay boxes, looks as though it will not congeal like a soap based grease and so have a much longer and effective life. I've yet another slime infection in the diesel so wi...

Might County have altered the standard brakes by fitting their own parts instead Mathias - with two driven axles they may have decided a different braking effect was needed ??

Re: Diesel Super Major Barely Turns Over / Won't Start

Had exactly the same problem with mine which turned out to be a corroded head gasket allowing coolant into one cylinder. Using several socket extension rods I turned it over one cylinder at a time, one out of the four pretty much locked = combustion space filled with water. If nothing else works sug...
