Re: Lorry rescue

Nice work Sandy (and Billy) No lorries this year but mine has taken a couple of bogged cars from a point in an unsurfaced lane by us try to reverse off to turn round without realising what a quagmire it is :) After the gales we had at different times 3 large oak limbs off 3 large oaks obstructing th...

Re: Super major wet clutch?

I wondered if the turn of phrase 'wet clutch' might have been the seller forewarning of oil leakage into the bellhousing ? Had the 'drain cock' been in the back end this might have been a site engineers solution to the 'waterfall' seal failing and the back end filling up, drain a pint or two and pou...

Re: Dexta Register.

Thanks Jerry I've had no experience with the admin side and find while I'm able to exclude the user I'm unable to delete the post ! I was able to edit it so hopefully that will be OK until one of the owners can tidy up after me ;) Hope you didn't discover the problem the hard way ! Not sure if this ...

Re: FPM oil from crankcase breather; coolant pouring out

As is often the case with the Occam's razor approach, the 'What has changed to cause this' may well be some random, unconnected factor. Water leak - you need to trace where first which should lead to why. Oil breathing - the crankcase scavenging pipe aids by removing the evidence but doesn't diagnos...

Re: FPM oil from crankcase breather; coolant pouring out

Couldn't agree more Sandy, that's why I explained that crank case pressurisation is causing this and the vital part played by having a clean breather pipe between Rocker cover and air intake so that the partial vacuum there can scavenge this and prevent or reduce what would otherwise exit via the br...

Re: FPM oil from crankcase breather; coolant pouring out

Bottom line, if oil is exiting the crankcase breather in volume you have excess pressure in the crankcase / rocker box which the breather pipe is designed to suck out into the air intake, if it is oil rather than oily 'mayonnaise' emulsion then little chance of coolant getting into the lubrication s...

Re: FPM oil from crankcase breather; coolant pouring out

Oil and particularly emulsion sludge from the breather generally indicates positive pressure in the crankcase, usual cause for this is the small pipe between air cleaner and rocker cover becoming restricted or blocked, give this a good clearout (use a wire, just blowing air through will not last lon...

Re: Thread stripped on fuel bleeder

Only just noticed this Brian, to avoid having to use too much torque on the bolt, heat the copper washer to red heat, hold it there for 10 seconds or so then drop into cold water, this will anneal i.e. soften it so it will conform and seal with less torque, always good practice if re using Cu washer...

Re: ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

Thanks for all your assistance Emiel from myself and Farmer David Today's expedition with a variety of what 'might' be the wiring diagram concentrated on the broken wires from the battery sensor, with the aid of a bulb on a flexi and mirror on an old telescopic radio aerial I eventually found where ...

Re: New user, new project

Hi and welcome to the forum Dave's concern was not the absence of wheel but the stack of building blocks supporting the weight, if you have not actually seen a stack of these under minimal load suddenly disintegrate without warning you will not appreciate the warning - timber or steel is safer :) Yo...

Re: ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

Down to the farm yet again but with a crowbar and head torch, lifting the battery showed a circular 'thing' in a hole in the tray, ferretting about underneath this is clearly the often mentioned sensor, complete the broken remains of two wires, not easy to see but it looks like they entered the loom...

Dynamo field coils is a likely candidate, especially if ignition switch / and / or regulator relay have welded contacts.

Easily checked, take the small wire off the back of the dynamo.....

Re: ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

Thanks Emiel, I am going to have another look for a battery sensor as several things I have read hint at this being a regular problem - need to have the battery right out of tray, the loader may have got in the way, the info on trying a 200 ish ohm resistor as a substitute is the only 'get around' I...

Re: ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

That's what I'm trying to do Emiel, I can't see any sign of a separate sensing module and am fairly sure there is a broken or poor connection, hence wanting a wiring diagram - hoping no one h :scratchhead: as done a 'cut & shut' repair in the past

Re: ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

Hi Emiel

The ignition light does not come on at the 1st key position but I have separately tested the bulb which is OK so discounts that as a problem.

I'm amazed I can find no wiring diagram on the web, perhaps it was not a very popular model ?

ford 4600 charging problem / wiring diag

Hi Folks, trying to help my neighbour out with a problem on his Ford 4600 about 1976. Has a Lucas alternator with something called battery sensing ? 2 wires in addition to the 'power' plug, one in a socket marked 'S' runs back to a stud on the starter solenoid and appears to be permanently at batter...
