Hey Ben, Your 'Ah ha!' could be right on! Found the very same setup on our original '62 Super Dexta  (Just a spring and a washer.... although this washer is somewhat thinner and has a bit larger diameter. (0.026" thick, 0.520" ID and 1/341" OD) It seems that a regular flat washer has been sub...

Ben,

Took a look at the AC fuel filter on a '62 Super Dexta that is not running and to my surprise found exactly what you did>>> just a washer and a spring!?
(Has AC, D08-1 and FF23 Element cast on the top of the head.)
Tomorrow I'll check out our original '62 Super Dexta.

Later,

Ben, I have found, over here, 'no longer serviced' means the depot no longer bothers to carry them but a dealer might still have some old stock. I think #18 will be the tough one to find as it appears to be a holder for sealing rings 17 & 22. (square shouldered orings might be available locally) A w...

Hi Ben,

My parts book shows more 3 items between the washer and bottom of filter:

#17> E512-CL-9 (Gasket, fuel oil filter)
#18> 116276-ES (Washer, gasket support)
#22> E1ADDN-99116-B (Seal, fuel oil filter)

Cheers,

On the cowls: This might be old news but I noticed that there was a slight difference between cowls on a '61 Dexta compared to the '62 Dexta. The sides of the '61 and earlier carry mostly straight down whereas the sides of the '62 and later slope slightly to back to the front similar to the Super De...

Hi Taggart, Just the preheater helps alot even if the primer doesn't work. You can install a block heater or recirculating coolant heater. There are also electric, magnetic oil heaters available for the bottom of the oil pan (outside) and long dipstick heaters that go in place of the uhh....well.......

Petrol Governor Adjustment

Hi, Anyone set the governor on a Petrol Dexta or have the information on howto? Have set this one to FE35 and TEA20 specs but doesn't seem to work. (They have 26 coil governor springs but this has 21.) The low idle is too high (1150rpm) and after working on the brush cutter for a couple of hours the...

Bensdexta, You're right, the later Dextas had a 2nd fuel filter. We even have a cartridge for one sold to my Dad by mistake at the dealers ~20 years ago. Haven't got a canister or found a tractor to fit it yet :) ! Looks a later model alright, with the off-white fenders and rims, but the H/L shifter...

nedwobj, I think most of the wear will be on the shifter so a new one should do the trick. I couldn't understand why the feel and throw on the gear selector of our latest Dexta was different than others? Pulled the top off and found that the bottom end of the shifter had been cut off and a square he...

Went to change oil in my new Petrol Dexta. Found the filter floating in the canister and missing internal parts such as a spring and seals:? ! And all the crud in the bottom of the sump along with a small washer and much grit :( ! Started rebuilding it but found another one at a wreckers off a Stand...

Hi,

Anyone know if the Barrios Books Dexta manual also covers the Petrol engine and if they are a good manual?

Thanks,

Tom, To get the loader hydraulics to work on ours, I have it in draft position, have the 3 point hitch arms down, start lifting them and then pull the auxillary knob out (while the arms are still moving up)to put the oil to the loader and then it works? Something doesn't seem quite right but it work...

Just to weigh in:

Our '62 Super Dexta came with 1/4" fine thread, round headed screws, I think just under 1" long.

Thanks James but... I had another look at the manuals and found that the single clutch free play is 3/4" in the 1957 workshop and owners manuals but has increased to 1 1/4" in the 1960 owners manual and the 1962 Super Dexta owners manual? These are "Export" owners manuals so maybe there is a bit of ...

Regarding the PTO stopping first and tranny last...

I was wondering if...

It would be possible to mix up the 2 clutch discs or even adjust the bolts on the fingers to cause the PTO clutch separate first?

Not ready to split it yet as I have a Super Dexta engine to finish first.

Thanks,
Les

Double clutch adjustment?

In the original 1957 workshop manual it calls for 3/4" free pedal movement for the dual clutch adjustment but in the 1962 Super Dexta owners manual it states 1 1/4". Is the Super Dexta different or is the 1 1/4" an update for all Dextas? And.. what should the Petrol Dexta to be set at? Thanks, Les J...

Today, while checking the operation of the clutch(es) on the Dexta, I noticed that the PTO stops first and then the transmission, with the clevis in either hole!??
Is it possible that the respective fingers for each clutch were just adjusted incorrectly?

Taggart, Nice, clean looking tractor complete with headlights and grill screens. Did it come that way or have you replaced them? I have seen several USA Dextas with the same grill guard bolted to the front axle. Anyone know the make or what they were originally for? Water pumps run around $100 on eB...

Brian, Yes, the PTO stops in the forward position and it takes a bit of a heavy foot to push it down. And it feels the same in the 2nd position, just have to lift my foot higher! I have adjusted the rod as per the manual. I have not worked anything on the PTO yet but will put the brush cutter on and...

Live clutch

Hi, The Dexta I just got is supposed to have the double clutch but.. it works the same in either yoke position (as a single clutch). It is harder to push down than other Dextas so I am wondering if it was not aligned correctly and is it possible that both clutches are being separated at the same tim...

Welcome Taggart!

Glad you found these pages!

From your serial number, it looks like you may have one of the very last pneumatic governed Dextas that was built.
Look forward to your photos!

Fordson Dexta?

Hi,

Hope this link to a Dexta works.

http://www.agriaffaires.com/occasion/tr ... dexta.html

Is this really a Dexta and what engine does it have?
Looks like a 4 cylinder with pump on the right side?

Petrol water pump

Guys,

Does someone know if the water pump on the petrol Dexta engine is the same one used on the FE35 and /or TEA20?

Thanks,
