IMHO; you are not supposed to use stay-bars with a disc harrow, plow & some other equipment.

Looked at a Ford 3000 yesterday. 8 H 29 serial # B 856657 2500 hours factory crate replacement engine no brakes the clutch is either stuck to the flywheel or the pressure plate is bad the decal for shift pattern is bad so I don't know if it is a 3 or 4 speed with L/H question is: what year was it ma...

Re: Hand Brake Ratchet

Here in the USA there are still a few dexta's in service. I have two, one running well and another I purchased for scrap price that some kid ran it overheated until it literally stopped. Back to the hand brake ratchet. I have never seen one on a tractor in the USA. I would certainly love to fit one ...

Re: Stuck in gear - Gear stick weld?

howdy; I have a 1961 Dexta. Got stuck in gear all the time IF not careful. Bought a brand new shifter assy complete and it still does the same thing. I've thought about welding up the old one to a larger size and see how it works. It seems to me that the SHIFT RAILS are far too loose and could be pa...

Re: electric conversion

Pardon the color (Persian Orange); but Allis-Chalmers built a electric motor (20 hp DC) about 1958 powered by no less than Fuel Cells. I don't know how to post a link however if you google Allis-Chalmers fuel cell tractor there is a nice short video that is interesting. Now the question would be how...

Re: Valve Seats - FSM

I'll be on my way to the Automotive Machine Shop in town in the morning with this information. As a plus I am going to print and save the information on paper as I also have a Dexta. There were not and are not very many Dexta's and Major's in my neck of the woods so they are not understood well by m...

Re: Valve Seats - FSM

Good Day to you (as I don't know what time it is at your home) Yes, I certainly would like to have the dimensions for both the standard and oversize valve seats. Sooo, Fordson did use valve seats in the Major series cylinder head. I'm looking forward to getting mine running and back on the job. Once...

Re: Valve Seats - FSM

The cylinder head for my FSM has seats installed. The ones on # 1 cylinder must be replaced. So, I guess that someone has "messed with it" before. My FSM is most likely a 1961 or 62 model and the engine has been replaced. I'll tell the fellow at the Automotive Machine Shop to do the best he can in o...

Re: Valve Seats - FSM

I made a call to Walt's. They do not have valve seats in stock. They do not have a source for them. They are listed on-line in their parts however not available. Also, their minimum shipping charge in the US is $12.00 confirmed by phone. Any other suggestions as to a source for the correct valve sea...

Valve Seats - FSM

I am looking to purchase valve seats, intake and exhaust for my Super Major. The cylinder head is the FL version. I tried the search function, a vendor and the New Holland site. I could not find a part number or listing for a replacement valve seat. The machine shop called yesterday and asked if I c...

Re: Re-engine FMD SMD

Hello Fellow Fordson Owners: Yes, I do like to see them original. Working or Showroom condition. What is sad is to see a perfectly good Fordson left to the elements or scrapper for lack of an engine. Same with old car's & trucks. Some folk put down one that has been re-powered by a modern engine. I ...

Hello I don't know where you are in VA; however a fellow just south of town (Galax) welded my broken lift arm and it is still holding well. Having the cylinder head redone on the Super Major. It had been off the engine prior to my ownership and was not repaired very well resulting in early failure. It had dropped a valve on # 1 cylinder and that is all that was repaired. I would like to have the head cut a little to clean things up to i...

Antifreeze

I've been hearing a lot of chatter about not using current solution antifreeze in our "Older Engines" because it contains "Organic Acid Technology" what ever that is. It is labeled as extended life, mixes with all brands/colors and is harmful to our Old Iron engines. Chatter indicates that we should...
