Re: field shots
Local parts house was able to look up the fan belt by application, which surprised me. I live in northwestern Minnesota. Bought the tractor at the estate sale of the original owner, and so began the obsession. When she purrs, there is nothing else like it.

field shots
Hi all, couldn't help but post a couple of photos of the old girl in the field from this past weekend. We were baling some straw with it, and the old fan belt decided to give out. I parked in against the corn and couldn't help but take a few shots. Subsequently, can anybody help me with a useable nu...

Re: 16.9 x 30 or 14.9 x 30
Originally blackbob what I had meat was.....I was getting rid of my wide wheels and tires, and had found a set of wheels with 16.9 tires on them. The tires were tough looking, and I had found a used set of 14.9 x30 tires with good rubber and no cracks. I was curious out there if anybody had stretche...

Re: headlights.
Let face it, anything is better than what I've got right now, which is no lights. I am in northern Minnesota, right on the border of ND / MN, and about 75 miles south of Emerson MB. I would love the chance at some parts, sounds like you have inventory. The left side headlight I have now has a trashe...

Hi All, Been awhile, but I've been tinkering with the '53 again. I've been looking for the better part of two years for a left side front headlight. I am attempting to keep the tractor mostly original, and have a really good right side headlight. The problem is, the left side socket and bulb had cor...

Check this out:
http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb ... f=2&t=5993
I had the same problem with my 53, so I took the advice of "Spicklas" and had the box machined to accept the later model sleeve. No more leaks, and if they do, it can be repaired with a new seal.

Re: ford 3000
I have been looking for a 4000, but havent been successful. In the long run, I wasnt impressed enough by the early model diesel 3000 to give up the major. maybe when the right 4000 comes along.

ford 3000
Hi all, I'm thinking of upgrading the major to a diesel 3000 I found. I havent had a chance to get close enough to check the serial number yet, but it has headlights in the grill instead of outside of the nose. I think it must be an earlier model because of this. Guy says the it shows 6700 hours on ...

Hi there, it seems we have the same trouble, although mine isnt settling as quickly as yours. I watched the video, and Im not quite followng what the process is good for. Is it supposed to increase oil flow to speed up the hydraulics?

Re: How to stop 3 point arms from settling?
Ok, so now that we have it narrowed down to one of the two problems, is one more common then the other? Seal and o-ring replacement on the piston seems pretty straight forward. Since this is an early 53, I assume I probably have one of the obsolete types of valves...Brian, can you eloaborate on what...

How to stop 3 point arms from settling?
Hi all, Warmer weather finds the old 53 out again, and of course I keep wanting to make the old girl better. I have noticed when the pto pump isnt engaged, the 3 point arms slowly drop. Is is possible to fix this so that you can stop the arms from settling without having to keep the pto engaged? If ...

Re: will it pull it !!!!!!
Hi guys, me again. After spending some time chatting with the neighbor this weekend, it seems I had my earlier story wrong. My new major pulled a 4 bottom John Deere wheeled plow. 4- 16 inch to be exact. Just wanted to update.

Re: will it pull it !!!!!!
I have a 53 new major, which obviously is rated for less HP then your 59. I bought it at the neighbors estate sale after he passed away a couple of years ago as I knew he had purchased it brand new. I found that at one point the rear rims had been split and widened, so the original 16.9 x 30 tire co...

Re: has anybody ran an hydraulic log splitter
I just wanted to throw this out there, as I was always a hydraulic splitter guy, until I tried the Bark Buster on the major. The diesel has enough low end torque, I could allow it to just idle and split as fast as I could handle the logs. I never cared for this splitter in the past when using it on ...

rear light questions
Alright, yours truly back with some dumb questions again. I scavenged this light off the rear of a 58 I was getting some parts off of for my 53 the other day. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk186/witty731/majorrearlight1_zpse25d8d37.jpg Is it factory? It has a sealed beam bulb in it. It was on t...

Re: Brake Parts and questions
Alright, point taken about the photos. lol. Let me ask this though Adrian, does that outer seal come out from the "brake" side of the housing, or do you have to remove the housing and pull everything out from the "tractor" side to remove the original style seal? Reason I ask is, there seems to be a ...

Re: Brake Parts and questions
In other words, there should no oil in the "stub" shaft, or brake shafts, or whatever you call it housing? So it would be a good idea to try and find replacement inner and outer seals as long as I have it apart?

Re: Brake Parts and questions
I can see the photo just fine. Thanks for the link, I was hoping to source some parts here on the this side of the pond, but doesnt look like I have much choice. When you refer to the inner bull seal, do you mean the one that is visible in the picture? Should I replace that when I have it apart? the...
