Fordson Dexta rear hydraulics problem - teardown and rebuild on YouTube…
I recently came across a YouTube clip showing a complete teardown and rebuild of the Dexta hydraulics. May prove of some interest to other members as the topic seems to appear on the forum quite regularly. Unfortunately the clip is in a foreign language but certainly gives a good insight into all th...

Re: Hand Throttle Lever Slips, Fan eats radiator shroud
Thanks for pointing that out John b - yes sorry those brackets I ordered did connect to the nose cone.
You can kind of make out the set up of the brackets in this YouTube clip (not my tractor)

Re: Length of Fordson Dexta clutch adjustment rod
Thanks Sandy, I'll give that a go, sure when I push the clutch down with my hand with the engine off, I can hear when the thrust bearing is hitting off the fingers bolt heads, so that will give me some idea of the adjustment required. I often thought a viewing window would be a good idea on a bell h...

Re: Length of Fordson Dexta clutch adjustment rod
Thanks Sandy, It was a long time ago now when I adjusted the clutch. It has been working fine for the last few years, it's just I have ran out of adjustment due to having reached the end of the threaded section on the clutch adjustment rod, but this can possibly be rectified by making adjustments to...

Re: Length of Fordson Dexta clutch adjustment rod
Here is a video clip of someone setting up a clutch on a 135, just to give an idea of what I had to do when I was setting up my clutch fingers with the nuts to lock the bolts in place. The standard dexta single clutch does not have any nuts to lock the bolts in place. (I think they were welded when ...

Re: Length of Fordson Dexta clutch adjustment rod
Thanks for the reply Sandy, So my clutch adjustment rod is currently too short. 31 9/16 Inch 31.5625 Inches = 80.16875 Centimetres I forgot to mention that I have had the clutch apart before due to a malfunction. I ended up having to bodge it back together and I had to adjust the release lever adjus...

Length of Fordson Dexta clutch adjustment rod
So at some stage my Dexta clutch adjustment rod has been cut and welded and is now the wrong length. So from the u shaped end with the bolt through it to the end of the threaded rod on mine is currently around 78.5 cm (there is a bit of a bend in the rod). At the time I got the tractor the clutch ad...

Re: Fordson Dexta brakes replacement of brake shoe linings
Thanks Sandy, I thought you might! I'll have to have another read of the manual to try and get my head around what exactly is involved in the procedure for adjusting the steady posts. Also thanks Bluebilly, I'll have to look into the transfer punches, I did feel like it was a bit of a bodge job with...

Re: double wheels
Hi Skyblue, Here is a link to the RSA (Road Safety Authority Ireland) fact sheet pdf. It has information regarding maximum widths for tractors with flotation tyres or dual wheels. I've seen plenty of people down at the bog with flotation wheels on their vintage tractors, I presume they drive them on...

Re: Fordson Dexta brakes replacement of brake shoe linings
Thanks Blackbob. I have only had my left brake working since I bought the tractor (I only use the tractor in my garden), so it is certainly good having two brakes working again. I started in the middle when I was tapping in the rivets. The holes in the linings were a perfect match with the holes in ...

Re: Fordson Dexta brakes replacement of brake shoe linings
So I went at the brakes today, just did one side. I locked the brake shoe in a vice and then used a sharp wood chisel and a rubber mallet to knock off the remnants of the old brake shoe linings. It took about 20minutes for each brake shoe to knock off the linings. There was still some bits of the li...

If you check one of my previous forum posts, scroll down to the picture of the tractor seat and you will see a wooden clutch alignment tool that we made up on the wood lathe for aiding the realignment of my single clutch, might give an idea of the general shape required. https://www.fordsontractorpa...

Re: Fordson Dexta brakes replacement of brake shoe linings
I came across this one video clip of someone doing the brakes on a dexta, they ended up grinding the old liners off (not to be advised). Anyway will give forum users who have not tackled the brakes yet an idea of what's going on inside the brake drums on your dexta... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Fordson Dexta brakes replacement of brake shoe linings
So one side of the brakes was not braking properly, so I decided to jump in the deep end and remove the hub and have a look inside to see what was going on. After undoing the two hub screws, which had been mangled before by a previous owner, (they were well and truly stuck in place). I managed to tu...

Re: So you're supposed to change the oil in your governor - Who knew?
Thanks Old Hywell, hopefully I got all of the air out of the system. It is only certain models that require the oil changing at every engine oil change. My 1959 Dexta has a vacuum type governor and does not require an oil change. However Sandy recommended that I put some clean oil in to my injection...

Re: So you're supposed to change the oil in your governor - Who knew?
Hi Sandy I bled the system somewhat, in that I first filled the diesel filter with diesel before screwing it on, then I pumped the fuel lift pump to fill up the hose between the fuel lift pump and the diesel filter, connected that hose, then pumped the top of the diesel filter to fill up the hose ou...

Thanks for the reply Sandy. Sorry I did not see it earlier, so she is already back together and started up first press of the button. I will have to look into the injector pump in the workshop manual in more detail as all of this stuff is way over my head. This was my first time changing a diesel fi...

Re: So you're supposed to change the oil in your governor - Who knew?
Hi Sandy thanks for the reply, so what you're saying is that even though I have the vacuum type governor on my 1959 Dexta, that I should put oil into it as a cleaning method. Just want to make sure I'm picking you up right. And do I put the clean oil into the oil pump?

Re: Fordson Dexta Fuel tap Fueltap - microbes or just dirty diesel?
Thanks for the reply Dave, I've been out to have another look inside the tank and I can clearly see now that the bent bit of pipe is the return pipe inside the tank. I had wrongly assumed that the return pipe outside the tank was just discharged in to the tank at the point that it enters lower than ...
