Re: removal of fuel sender unit 4610
If it's like the 4600 with a Q cab (and I think that it is) remove the instrument panel, and on the right hand side base you'll see a removable circular panel - 4 screws iirc - that lifts up. Under it is the sound deadening felt that has a corresponding disk part punched that removes. Under that is ...

Re: 4600 Changing Half shaft Oil Seal
Well at long last I've changed the oil seal. I started taking it off using my fork lift arm to take the weight but it was far too cumbersome to put it back single handed that way, so I made up a wooden cradle for it to sit in and used my workshop hydraulic trolley to manoeuvre it back in. My half sh...

Re: Temperature Sender Woes
Well I eventually got round to fitting the new sender. Original was a screw and nut terminal, new one was a 'faston' 1/4" spade. I took the precaution this time to thread a strong but thin wire through the hole in the faston, so if THIS one dropped at least I could recover it. Using a deep socket, w...

Re: 4600: OK Where's the fuel gauge sender hiding ?
Thanks Mike. Yes I found a similar picture on the web. It is JUST possible to get fingers to the sender over the top of the tank from the engine side - remember this has the Q cab. I didn't dare pull the faston connector off as I'd never get it back, but was able to get a meter probe onto it. Sender...

Re: 4600: OK Where's the fuel gauge sender hiding ?
If you have problems with both, fuel gauge and temperature gauge, the reason might be broken voltage stabilizer. The stabilizer is behind meter panel. No Mike thanks but it's not a stabiliser problem and the gauge is working - it's wiring or sender. Just can't get at the sender end of the wire. (Th...

4600: OK Where's the fuel gauge sender hiding ?
Now this sounds silly I know, but I cannot see where the sender unit for the fuel gauge is on my Q cab equipped 4600. Obviously it's in the tank. Equally obviously it must be through the top of the tank. But how the flipping heck do you get to it to prove it works, or that it's cable hasn't fallen o...

Temperature Sender Woes
I suspected that the temperature sender on my 4600 was defunct. I proved the wire from it back to the instrument. Then with a hot engine tried to measure the senders resistance to ground, but got a VERY high reading (100k ohms or so). So I decided to remove it and test it in boiling water. More easi...

Agriline Instrument Panels
A word to the wise. The Fuel gauge and Temperature gauge on the Agriline replacement instrument panels for the 4600 are polarity sensitive. The original instruments didn't care a jot as they (I think) are hot wire gauges. The ones in the panel supplied by Agriline will not work unless the correct si...

Re: ford timeline?
If you go to one of the US Ford New Holland dealer sites such as: http://partstore.agriculture.newholland.com/us/ And look for spares for each model, in the spares list it gives start and finish dates for when that part is used. By being selective about the part you look at you can deduce model date...

Re: WTD: Ford 4600 Q cab left hand step
Need now satisfied. I got a 6000 Q cab step off ebay, cut off the tread part and welded it onto my brackets - they seem to be identical except that the mounting brackets for the 4600 are about 5 inches longer than the 6000.

Re: 4600 Changing Half shaft Oil Seal
Good thought about the vent, but it happens cold and static - park up and she drips away nicely :) The Hydraulics don't use the filler plug as it seems to have had dual circuit remotes fitted from new - the pipes emanate from the dual spool valve. http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s294/awemawson/Fo...

Yes many thanks for the 'heads up' - a very useful set of pictures Kev - much appreciated.
Looks mechanically pretty straight forward but I need to decide if I'm really equipped to do it - cant get it in the barn now I have a large CNC lathe there

Yes I think that you are right The Sawnndri Guy. Re: 4600 Changing Half shaft Oil Seal
Thanks for that ScoobyJim. Doesn't sound too bad EXCEPT I have a cab on top of this lot
I'm rather surprised it's possible to get at the inner end of the half shaft through the hydraulic top - they seem quite a way apart

4600 Changing Half shaft Oil Seal
How much do I need to strip down to replace a leaking half shaft oil seal on my 4600? The 'book of words' I have (I&T Shop Service FO-41) is coming from the direction of stripping the entire back axle which I don't want to do if I can avoid it. Also what retains the half shaft? Nothing seems obvious...

I'm looking for a pair of lower lift arms for a 4600 I'm bringing back into service - the style with removable balls and spring retainer rather than the fixed ball type.

Re: My New Ford 4600 Tractor
Thanks Brian, New door glass arrived this morning and miraculously I managed to fit it without breaking - the rubber was in reasonable condition and using loads of soap and a strong thin string it went in without too much drama. First time I've actually fitted a glass like that so I was well chuffed...

Re: My New Ford 4600 Tractor
Ah Ha - bingo we have a picture :) I have had a Ford 4000 for some years, but as I need to mount a hedge flail I wanted something with a cab to protect me from the flying debris. No 4000 cabs turned up within travelling distance, but this 4600 did, complete with a Q cab (I believe ?) Seems basically...

Well - obviously not new but new to me :) I'll try and link in a photo, and if it works I'll put up a few more so here goes: OK that's not working - when I look at the 'posting pictures' topic, the suggested bit to cut and paste from photobucket isn't on my photobucket screen :( Let's try again: htt...
