Without a ground drive PTO option, it would be pretty difficult to do a link up like the Double Butt.
That tractor made from 2 Sherman tank transmissions is really something!! Coolest thing I have seen today!!

Re: Age & Model info reqd
Those numbers sound like ones from a later 1000-series tractor, or maybe a late Super Major.
Can you post a picture of your tractor?
Thanks - SR

Re: Perkins l4
From what I have seen/heard, this was a conversion kit available for the E27N.
I have yet to come across an E1A (or later) with an L4 in it, mind you, it could be possible...

Re: NP Engine Rebuild
Just a wild shot in the dark, but some versions of the drive coupler for the injection pump are known to be notoriously noisy. More of a nuisance than a problem.
Could it be that?

Re: NP Engine Rebuild
That is a rather opened question. Really depends on how much is wrong with it and whether you are comfortable doing it yourself. Besides parts, your next biggest expense will be machine work. If the crank needs grinding or the cam journals in the block are badly worn, you will need the help of an au...

Re: Going ploughing
To be honest, I had to down load the photo and zoom in to see it...
I agree though, I would not be comfortable with allowing the axle trunnion casting to bear this load alone. The leverage that this area is exposed to, if unsupported, is huge.

Hi Rick,
Looking closely, it is pinned to the plate that is bolted to the front of the tombstone. Are you worried that this mounting arrangement is not strong enough?
Cheers,

Re: Rev Counter Drive Gearbox Power/Super Major
I don't have any suggestions, but I can sympathize. I have heard the same "no one else has complained" line before with parts that I have purchased for my old British motorcycles. My other favorite lines are "most enthusiasts enjoy a bit of fettling to make their parts fit" and "you must dry assembl...

Re: The Fall and Rise of a 7710
Great pictures. The 7910 was not a model that we got here in Canada, or likely all of NA for that matter. The 8210 was the first 6-cylinder UK model that we got in the late '80's, although we never owned one. Funny you mention 1985 - that was the year that we bought our 6700. Coming from an old Bela...

Re: Fordson E27N Manifold drain valves
They are on the bottom of the 2 intake runners on the intake manifold. They are hard to see with the manifold installed. They are basically a shuttle-style check valve, with no spring. The valve is held open by gravity on the shuttle, until the engine is started. Then the engine intake vacuum draws ...

Re: My Super Major restoration
Up here in the Great White North, tractors used for grounds maintenance at airports or for mowing grass along highways were frequently painted a similar colour of orange. I always though it was funny for them to go to all the trouble of painting a Ford or John Deere orange when they could have just ...

Hi Brian, Thanks for the response. Yes, I have read through most of the older posts on the factory fit valves. It has me intrigued how many different setups that have been developed. I am not really liking the idea of using the jack port, with flow only available when the lift is fully raised/blocke...

I found this in my searching for parts for the PM. Has anyone ever fit one of these to a Major? http://www.steinertractor.com/FDS457-hydraulic-valve-adapter-kit-includes-orings-and-instructions Just looking at it, my "Sounds to Good to be True" alarm is going off; I just cannot see the same solution...

I am kind of wondering if the horn would be similar to the Lucas one that we have on our 1950 E27N. It would at least be from the same period.

Re: new performance dexta
I think what Brian means is that it is a standard diesel Dexta, but does not have a diesel engine made by Standard, a British company that made engines during that period. The petrol Dexta used a Standard engine, and some late Ferguson & early Massey Ferguson 35 tractors used a Standard diesel engin...

What is the serial number? That would seal the deal on the year.
The rectangular tool boxes are the earlier style, 1924-25 I think. The later ones had inverted triangular lids.

Hi Brian, Yes, we are pretty happy to have it. You are correct about the paint on some of the tractors sent over here, but the only ones I have seen painted the light great are what were labeled "Ford 5000 Super Majors", which were New Performance Super Majors to the rest of the world: http://www.fo...

Looking at the rad sides, that looks like an Irish N, pre-1933. No Fordson script down the side.
Unless the rad has been swapped.... can't see a water washer in the pictures. The governor has me skeptical as well. Did the Irish N's even have a governor?
More pictures would be good.
