Re: Dexta front wheels

16" are kinder on the ground too - as they can run at a lower pressure.

Both EVX and PHK are Chelmsford registrations.
Essex council should be able to tell you who took out these registrations.

Re: Dexta nuts and bolts

I think I'm right in saying: UNC and UNF
Depends on the bolt/nut.
The online parts list, see sticky here, is quite good at giving bolt/thread size.

I wouldn't recommend just going out and buying a bag of bolts. Replace each bolt one by one as you need.

Re: Advice needed - Dexta losing power

Yes it sounds like fuel starvation.
Is the tap on your new primer (assuming it has a tap) opening properly? One I had, had a poorly formed gallery. In tank fuel filter clear?

Could you refit your old fuel pipe to eliminate that?

I think it's all harmless; yesterday when clicking on your photos, I got some nice Asian ladies. Today it's money, diets and hair regrowth! Perhaps it's tailored for me!

So don't worry, the truck looks great! :D

Re: Ford Thames

Various refs on the web for the ET6 give payload as 3tons, 5tons even up to 8 tons. So I'd have thought it would carry a Dexta easily. I wouldn't go too much on what the reg doc says. Is there an owners club - prob your best source of info? Does it look similar to this? http://ccmv.aecsouthall.co.uk...

Re: How to replace water pump seal?

Sorry to hear of your stroke. You are making a good recovery to be tractoring again, so do keep getting better. I fitted a replacement water pump rather than repair my old pump, although I believe there are seal kits available for this. A replacement pump is the quick fix - easily changed in a coupl...

I second the recommendation for the Tractormec.co.uk (by Mike Perry) vid, which describes strip/overhaul of a Dexta top cover. Mike is also a very helpful guy if you need advice.

Ext services button is pressed in.

Have a look at the workshop manual - there's trouble shooting at the back.

I installed the switch in the usual Super D position, on the RH side of the lower inst panel. Fits neat and tidy.

Re: Alternator advice

Do make sure you get a decent harness, no scotch locks or similar. Soldered terminals are best and will last for years - nothing worse than dodgy electrics! I actually fitted a non-standard 'ignition' switch, a Hobbs Honeywell 848289 3-position key switch: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/051...

Re: Alternator advice

See the wiring diag for my Dexta with alternator, described in this thread. Your Major should be pretty much the same. http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?p=8390 I left the four unused wires (DEAF) in the new harness, but just taped up the ends to keep them out of the way. I also ...

Re: Alternator advice

If you want a new harness, I got mine (Dexta) from Autosparks. I can recommend them. All colours as per original. Got mine made without end terminals, so I could solder on my own. Got all my terminals from them too.

Re: Alternator advice

The fat wire (+ve) from the Alternator should go directly to the battery side of the solenoid.

The thin wire from the Alternator should go to the Alt warning light and thence to the ignition switch.

The alternator body should be earthed to the tractor chassis (-ve).
