Damaged bush/bearing/seal
Strip down is nearly complete! almost finished stripping back the paint to bare metal before repairing some seals etc, filling with oil, and painting with primer (Don't want to find leaks after painting!) As per the pic, where the pedal arm passes through the casting, the seal which sits in the cast...

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild
Nice job. I cut it with a new Eclipse blade, cut fairly easily, although it was harder than mild steel. Made a bit of a mess of the blade but got through.

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild
The bush was fairly hard as it sparked when i tried to knock it out with a punch. It cut fine with a new hacksaw blade.
Didnt fancy running a bead of weld inside it to shrink it...knowing my luck i would have blown through it and welded it in place

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild
The only really difficult bit is the top link bracket or rocker as its called in the parts list. The bush or pin that holds it in place must be a push fit into the rear diff casting and doesn't want to move. Do I clean it up and paint it in situ or get the tinker out? The rocker is a bit loose on t...

Re: Brakes
No way the drums were coming off today, ended up taking the half shafts/drums out in one piece, standing them on their ends and leaving them flooded with release agent. They are rusted solid between the back of the drums and the flanges. Everything else nicely greased :D Thanks for your help fellas ...

Re: Brakes
Looking that way isnt it
With the drum on i can't get to any fixings to take the two half shafts out. Workshop manual doesnt suggest how to get them out without taking the drums off first.
Can it be done?

Re: Brakes
Thanks all, the drums do turn so i assume the pads are not contacting the insides of the drums and they should pull off.
I have given them a gentle bit of encouragement with a rawhide hammer but they don't want to budge.

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild
Hi Dave It is possible. She was stored outside to begin with but with the exhaust removed and a fitted tractor cover over her. After that she was moved to the barn where she was dismantled before being hauled up into the workshop above. The barn was in the process of being constructed and didn't ha...

Re: Brakes
Hi Andy, I've spent two days searching for my Workshop manual to no avail. :( Annoyed as it was an original. I have just bought another copy off ebay but if you could let me have a link to the relevent page it will get me away until it turns up. So in a nutshell, if i back-off the brakes the drums s...

Brakes
Finally managed to find a bit of time away from work and the Dexta is well stripped down now, almost ready for preparations for painting. I'm having problems dismantling the rear wheel drums to get to the brake assemblies. I can't find anything previously discussed on here. I've got the wheels off a...

Dexta front axle
After a lot of knuckle scraping i managed to get the bashed nose cone off my Dexta without damaging any original parts/brackets. This has then let me take off the radiator (which leaks :x ) and strip off a few more bits at the front end. Can anyone tell me how the front axle comes off? it pivots on ...

Toolbox and Worklight
Sorry...another dumb question... Were worklights (Ploughing light?) and toolboxes fitted as standard on Dextas? The original wings off mine certainly had a tool box fitted as the rusty remains of the back of one were still attached, although with modern fixings. There doesnt seem to be any holes whe...

Belt Pulley
Hi all, not been around too much, just moved house and re-homed the Dexta ready for restarting restoration. Taken some doing but looking forward to getting back to it. Speaking to an old chap, he said he thought Dexta's had belt pulleys on a lot of them, as per the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/for...

Thanks Nick, that's good news. Found a birds nest tightly packed in behind the speedo. There's at least 10 bolts in the fuel tank as well for some reason.

Took the air cleaner off today, along with a load of other bits
The base of the air cleaner is full of sludgy oil. How has oil found its way into the air intake?

Re: 1958 Dexta cracked block
I have just bought some replacement, original, fenders. The ones on mine have holes drilled where the rear lights should be. The replacement ones i have bought have a reflector mounted on a pressing. Mine is 1960 ish, what would it originally have been fitted with? Thanks.

Started stripping it down today, scraped at least a wheelbarrow full pof grease and muck off it, started getting the parts off, cleaned up, marked up and ready for blasting. Lots to do.

Re: 1958 Dexta cracked block
I have been having another poke around the tractor before finally taking the plunge and dismantling it... Looks like there is a starting handle hole at the front of the tractor, with the toothed cog hiding away. I've not seen any reference to this on the literature i have read. Did Dextas always com...

Mark; you have achieved a great finish on the block. I do a lot of spraying of enamels and two pack paints at work, so i hope i can achieve as good a finish as you have.

Re: 1958 Dexta cracked block
Thanks Gerry, repairing the block is one of a long list of jobs that need doing to it. I think i've got the wrong end of the stick with the serial number, seems the number i quoted is a casting number not a serial number. Its caked in so much grease and muck i cant see any other numbers so i'll have...

1958 Dexta cracked block
Hello! My first post here, so feeling my way round a bit. I've just bought a 1958 Dexta (957E 7005) with a Mill loader as my refurb project. Brought it home last night and had a good poke round everything. Everything is in reasonable nick, with lots of corrosion varying from needing a clean up and a...
