Paint
I'm trying to keep my Dexta as near-original as possible. When they came from the factory, were any parts unpainted or was everything just coated in blue/orange paint? Having looked at literally thousands of pictures of Dextas over the last 2-3 years, i notice some areas (Fuel pump, lift pump, dynam...

Rear brake springs
Where the 2nr 25mm dia circular brake 'shafts' enter the back of the rear brake housings, there is a 50mm dia or so 1.5mm thick washer and a tapered spring which slides over the shaft (and seems to stay in place by friction), 50mm or so long which keeps the washer tight against the back of the brake...

Re: Dating my Dexta
Just been out in the cold again... The number hand stamped next to the peep hole is 957E67439. The number 957E7505B is a cast mark on the opposite side to the hand stamped number. That will teach me to scribble numbers down on oily bits of paper. Does this change anything? She doesnt have a road reg.

Re: Little advice please. First Dexta
The bolts on mine were rusted solid so in the end i had to cut them off either side of the axle casting then drill out what was left. It had a roll bar that someone had welded the mudguards to to stop them from falling off! The bottom of the mudguards is a standard place for a Dexta to rust away to ...

Re: Pistons and piston ring end gaps
Thanks :D The Perkins book says ' when fitting pistons and connecting rods to the cylinder block and crankshaft, ensure that the side of the connecting rod which is stamped with the number goes to the camshaft side of the engine.' This would mean the stamp marks on the con rod and cap are on opposit...

Pistons and piston ring end gaps
Hello all. Couple of questions - Firstly; the ring end gap for the top and second compresion rings should be between 0.254-0.381mm and 0.2286-0.3302mm respectively according to the Perkins handbook (Engine model P3/144). The new rings i have just tried in at the bottom of the bore give me an end gap...

Re: dual to single batteries
Welcome to Fordson Tractor Pages, bjbjl6. Your Dexta was originally 12 volts, positive ground. I can't think of a reason that anyone would have changed it to 6 volts. I don't think that you could start it with 6 volts, especially in the winter. Check to see if it still has the original generator, o...

Sta-Dri cab
Hello all. Does anyone have any information - (sales literature/manual? etc) for a Sta-Dri cab. Bought one this weekend for my Dexta - in fair condition for a decent price. I'd like to read up on them a bit. In the distant past i seem to remember finding a small sales brochure but can't find it :? T...

Painting
Quick question - a lot of the Dexta's I see which have been reconditioned, all engine parts are painted blue. How were they originally painted when they left the factory...was the whole lot painted blue (obviously except grilles, wheels etc), or were certain bits of the engine left unpainted....fuel...

Starting to put her back together!
Having finally dismantled the Dexta and finished cleaning up all the bits, it's now time to start refurbishing each bit and putting her back together. Having been unhappy with the repairs to the cracked engine block, I managed to source a replacement original. It is in good nick and has liners in. P...

Dexta Toolbox
Morning chaps. I am looking for a replacement toolbox for my Dexta which fit to the left wing. Ideally I want to use an original one rather than repro. There's a few old ones regularly kicking about on ebay but are different sizes/designs. Can anyone point me in the direction of the proper design/si...

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild
Got the head off the engine and a few other stubborn bits this afternoon. Doesnt seem in too bad condition; there is slight wear on the cylinders, enough to just catch a fingernail at the top of the stroke. Is this sufficient to require 1. new liners, 2. new rings or, 3. nothing :P Its all having a ...

Re: Damaged bush/bearing/seal
Have you thought of an easy way of cleaning out the residue of gloopy oil out of the bottom of the castings? I have a lot of emulsified rubbish left inside i need to get rid of. Not a lot of access but at the moment all i can think of doing is scouping out as much as possible then soaking it up with...

Re: Damaged bush/bearing/seal
95% of the paint/muck is off now, probably took me around 6 hours with a decent quality 4.5" wire wheel in a grinder. Theres a few small areas where i need to use a smaller brush in a drill to get into the nooks and crannies. I've taken it right back to bare steel and suprised that there is no evide...
