Re: Dexta Mods finished
OK, I tried to put some picture with this but can't figure out how to do it. I used Perkins part # 2666103 from a perkins 3-cyl diesel to replace the original pre-heater and the atomizer. This part has both built in as one part. I drilled out the old prehater port and re-tapped it to 7/8-14. The old...

I replaced the factory preheater with a Perkins Diesel Preheater/Injector combination and then replaced the starter with one from a Ford 2000 (2.5 KW) . It starts quickly and reliably. I high...

Dexta Mods finished
An update on the mods to my dexta. I replaced the factory preheater with a Perkins Diesel Preheater/Injector combination and then replaced the starter with one from a Ford 2000 (2.5 KW) . It starts quickly and reliably. I highly recommend the mod for anyone who wants a Dexta that starts easily. Mine...

Re: Hard Starting Dexta Help 2
Yesterday, I modified my Dexta to take the Perkins All-in-one Preheater to replace the Dexta Preheater and separate Atomizer. The Perkins has the atomizer and preheater all in one part. The Preheater gets hot FAST, wow!! I still need to replace the preheater switch but I have that and am just waitin...

Re: Hard Starting Dexta Help 2
OK, I need to know; What starter can I put on this old girl to make it work? I'm more than willing to make a modificatioin to it so I can put it to work. The present starting system is a bit clumsey (to say the least) so, what starter should I be looking for to make the change to a better deal? I ca...

Re: Hard Starting Dexta Help 2
Another day working on the Dexta. Today I found a Youtube short flick that showed a Dexta being started. I believe something is wrong with my starter or at least something is missing from it. On Youtube, the gentleman reached down and pushed the starter lever down, the starter engaged and the tracto...

Re: Hard Starting Dexta Help 2
On and off for the last week, I've been working on my Dexta. Good news is that my dexta will indeed start without ether. Bad news is I have found that the ball in the fuel Atomizer is indeed stuck and as to how I will free it up I havn't a clue. I talked with the local Perkins service rep. and he se...

Re: It Just dosn't seem right to me!!
I checked over the wiring and found that it isn't as it should be. New wiring harness? I also checked the pre-heater, if I jump it to power it heats up nicely, but the push-button swith is weak to say the least. So, now I need to find a new push button for the pre-heater. I also found that the Atomi...

Hard Starting Dexta Help 2
I spent the day checking the Pre-heater and the injector. The preheater will get hot, but not when I use the button on the lower dash. I jumped frrom the battery to the pre-heater and it got cherry red in 40 seconds. However the pre-heater injector won't spray. When I take the line off, the pre-heat...

It Just dosn't seem right to me!!
I spent some time working on my 1959 Dexta today (SN 957E34718) I found that the fuel filter wasn't a filter but only a small additional fuel tank, No innards init. The Air filter was full of nasty, rusty, OLD steel wool, and no oil in the oil bath. I'm afraid to look in the Oil filter. (Tomorrow). ...

Re: Hard Starting Dexta help
I held the pre-heater button down for at least 50 seconds (slow count). gave it two pumps on the fuel tap and hit the starter. It sounds like it wants to hit but won't. New rings? Valve job? I put a new (correct) fuel pump on it. The old one was lacking the primer lever, and when I pulled the old on...

Hard Starting Dexta help
Well, I finally got my account working and can post a question. I have purchased a 1959 (I think) Dexta SN957E34718 and while I can get it started, It is a struggle. The previous owner ALWAYS started it with ether and as far as I can tell never did any maintenance on it at all. I checked it over and...
