Re: How to get more grip?

Hi Pascal, good to see her at work at last, my 6 cylinder makes me smile every time i use it. When i cultivate ploughed ground i use 4th or 5th gear not sure if that helps traction but never seem to have to much problem, unless ground is really sticky, and then its normally when cultivator has bunged...

pump govenor

My 6 cylinder major has a 2703 engine i think, it came from a crane originally. The engine has recently got bouncy on tickover and especially when trying to drive at low revs, also when you reverse and hit brakes it nearly stalls. Is this a sign i need to have govenor rebuilt,, i have a old d series...

Re: Introduction and some questions.

Hello robbie, Welcome to the world of Fordsons, the rusty brown cable is the stop lever and at the fulcrum of this lever is the small cold start button. I am not sure which way the stop lever should be on this engine, you will have to turn engine over and see if any smoke comes from exhaust, if no s...

Re: Frame Reinforcement?

i would say it has done over 200 hours like that and there is no play at all, also none of the bolts on rails or engine to gearbox have ever vibrated loose/snapped.
Last week i was pulling a trailer that weighed about 9 tonnes so it does have to put up with some real work also.

Re: Low oil pressure

just a quick one,did you use any instant gasket when you did sump gasket if so could some have been dragged into oil pump and stopped it working? yes the best way to rebuild engine is to split tractor it will be quicker and easier that way so will save time and money in the long run. hope its not a ...

Re: aegerter with majors

no way of telling what ratio you have without taking top cover off and counting teeth on diff, or taking for a test drive. As for clutch and flywheel i have had no problems with mine with a 6 pot in it for last 3 years, that said a single clutch would be better for road work than a live drive clutch...

Re: aegerter with majors

you need to check whether you have a fast or slow diff in the super major as the slow one is only good for 15mph maybe as much as 25mph with a good 6 pot instead of the 4.
good luck with the project i am sure you will learn alot and have fun doing it.

you should see a film of oil on rockers, not gallons, i would remove rocker shaft and clean oilways in the shaft, mine where all blocked before i cleaned it. answer to your other thread if you go to the home page of this website there is lots of manuals/parts list you can download for free. have fun...

Re: Low oil pressure

oil pressure gauge sender is bolted into block just under the dynamo, on a super it should be an electric sender to a light on the dash. On my tractor i removed sender and took it to a hydraulic hose shop and they matched the thread of it to a gauge that will then screw direct into block, only cost ...

Re: lack of power

I think i may have found the problem with low power, after driving for 30 mins with timing in correct place the engine died, it turned out the fuel tank filter was blocked solid. That will teach me for believing previous owner, who claimed whole fuel system had recently been drained and cleaned. :cu...

As Far as i am aware county made the forestry changes at the factory, you could order exactly what spec you needed.
Osbournes at romsey hampshire are now the owners of all county rights and have a large range off parts on the shelf,

thanks for all the input guys, timing was out by about 3mm,
i have not had time to do a loaded run yet but it ticks over with less smoke, i am guessing it was over fueling a little before.

Re: lack of power

JC i have followed your instructions for timing, my mark on coupler appears to be 180 degrees out, ie it is at the bottom and marker line is at the top, question is would the engine run if timing was 180 degrees out, or have i done something wrong. i did not want to pull pump off to check it the oth...

Re: lack of power

i do have a compression tester some where, if anyone knows correct pressure that would be good to know, tractor starts really easily from cold so i would guess compression is ok. this model does have the faster backend ratio so that may affect pulling power some what, my 6 cylinder 100bhp will pull ...

i guess i should have said 6th gear, this tractor has the fl head engine, i was expecting it to pull better than a diesel major but it does not. previous owner had it on a log splitter for several years so i was expecting it to be glazed up, or maybe have stuck piston rings. how can i tell if rings ...

lack of power

I purchased a 1964 npsm awhile back with a broken diesel pump, i have now got the pump mended and tractor running, with about 1.5 tonnes on trailer it really struggles to make it up any hill in 3rd high, it puts out loads of black smoke but seems to have no torque at all, it is also breathing heavil...

just thought i would mention that a thames trader sump will not fit on the newer 6cylinder engines from a ford d series or cargo, so you would need to check before any casting took place.
