Hard starting
My 63 super was always great for starting cold or warm, only a few turns then it started immediately. But two weeks ago we had some nice weather so I worked her real hard cutting 2-3 foot long grass with a bulher finishing mower. Now its hard starting, it will crank for 30 seconds before starting. I...

Not Again!!
My tractor has been sitting around for the last two weeks, then today I took it out to clear some snow and its doing the same thing again. It was about -12C this afternoon when it froze or plugged up. Is this going to be a regular occurence? Should I flush it again? I was thinking of using a magneti...

Well I flushed out the drive with Karosene and it came out like milk, I probabbly have to flush it out another time, maybe in the fall. I put in the new fluid everything works great. Is there any way of adjusting the flow rate on the bucket cylinders? Its too slow. The loader cylinders are fine, I'v...

Three questions. Is it a big deal if I use diesel instead of karosene to flush out the hydraulic pump/drive? Karosene seem a little difficult to come by. I was able to remove the drain plug and cover from the diff, I found the screen completely plugged with soft ice/foam "crystals." I think it must ...

Okay so it looks like the weather is supposed to break..... we woke up to -49 this morning but by Sunday the weathers supposed to be at +1C!! :D Brian, you said I should put in two gallons of engine oil along with 5 gallons of karosene in the final drive, then let it run for 30 to 45 minutes. Now do...

Hey JC, I've heard of people doing that with the coals. I thinks its to cold for even that right now, we'll be down near -40 degrees tonight! Doesn't matter if you like Fahrenheit or Celcius at this temperature they both agree that its to damn cold!! . When I find a warm place for tractor and ...

Okay solved the dipstick issue, installed a new one which is measured and cut to size. Now I can see the condition of the oil, problem is its creamy in color with cristalize ice in it. How do I get the water out? Can the oil be drain and strained/filtered to seperate the water from the oil? How do I...

I did not see the dip stick there, I'll check tomorrow when I got out to the Shark, if its that obvious I'll feel like the dipstick!! What kind of weight do you recommend, I checked both my shop and owners manual for the weight. Brian wrote about the same oil as the engine, I'm running 15w40,...

Still can't find the dip stick, your saying it is next to the clutch. The only thing I see is the bung for the transmission(which has level stamps on the side). Brian you said the that ford changed the spec in 1957, but my tractor is a 1963 FSM and it specs a API GL 1 which is a mineral based oil(SA...

I just purchused my first tractor. Its a 63 super major, I was doing some easy yard work with it and the hydraulic quit all of a sudden(3 pt and loader). Checked fluids and its was pretty dry in the diff, could I have killed the hydraulic pump by running it dry? I added 4.5 gallons of fluid but stil...
