Re: intake heater

I did it to my '57 Major. It worked pretty good till I broke the flame heater. I don't have any pictures right now. I used a flame heater meant for a Massey Ferguson tractor. I got a guy to weld a 7/8th inch nut to my intake manifold so I could screw the heater into. Here's a video of another guy's ...

Re: 1957 fordson major

Markr1001, You have to pull it towards you to engage the pto. Nothing will happen if the tractor isn't running. Btw if you have a non live major the pto will only spin when the clutch is in. The lever right next to the igintion switch is the high-low shifter. Non-live ptos like mine low is up and hi...

Re: 1957 fordson major

Markr1001, hat lever is to enable the pto. And if you want to shift from high to low that lever is right under the throttle lever.

Re: FMD Weak hydraulics?

The Beast is back! The Major picked up the brushmower only about a foot off the ground before shimming. Once I shimmed the unloading valve and got it at 2,200 psi. It will picked it all the way up.

Re: FMD Weak hydraulics?

Shepp, I used the O-rings that the online parts diagram called for. Which are -115 O-rings. And about the valve being "flat". Aguy by me said it should have a point on the end like a perfect cone.

Re: FMD Weak hydraulics?

I want to thank everybody for thier help. I found my problem it was the O-rings that are in the pipe that goes from the pump to the chest/lid. I took everything apart tonight after work and rechecked everything to make sure it was right. Putting it back together I was thinking maybe I should try the...

Here's a picture of the valve and valve seat.

Is it normal for the valve seat to have a bevel on the inside?

Re: FMD Weak hydraulics?

Shepp, I have the unloading valve thats pictured all the way on the left in the picture. But on mine there's one single 1/16th? hole drilled at a angle down by the tip.

Re: FMD Weak hydraulics?

Henk, I still have the original spool valve/control valve. When I said I resealed it I only did the check valve and unloading valve. Shepp, The 3pt with a blade on it will stay up for about three days before starting to lower. I checked both pipes and the lid for cracks. They all look fine. Also the...

Re: FMD Weak hydraulics?

Well I just resealed the pump a second time. Still only 500 psi. I did notice if I rev it to max power I can lift my disc maybe 1/2 inch each pull of the lever and the gauge hits 1,000psi and goes right back to 0. Right now buying a better hydraulic pump is out of the question. Good Pumps go for $50...

Re: FMD Weak hydraulics?

Well I was able to hook up a pressure gauge tonight. The pump is only putting out 500 psi. I put two quarters in as shims and the pressure raised to 550psi. Anybody have any ideas?

FMD Weak hydraulics?

Hi, my '57 Major always seemed to have weak hydraulics. It could only lift 600 lbs or so. Recently I got my 6ft brush mower back. The mower weighs about 1,100 lbs. 3pt won't lift it up more than a inch off the ground. So recently I resealed the ram, pump, and spool valve and put in all new oil in it...

Re: Rocker shaft torque?

Thanks everybody for the help. I got it up and running last week. It was my first time ever putting a headgasket on. I must say it wasn't too hard of a job. I just made sure to take my time and keep everything clean and organized. It took about six hours to do. Some of the time was spent cleaning al...

Rocker shaft torque?

Hi, I'm in the process of putting a new head gasket on my fordson. And I'm getting ready to bolt everything back together. The problem is that I can't find what the rocker shaft bolts should be torqued to. I checked everywhere and I can't find anything on what the torque should be. Does anybody know...

Proto-Dexta?

Hey, I was checking tractorhouse the other day. And I saw this http://m.haasequipment.net/List/Tractor/ForSale/8414339

has anyone ever seen one or even heard of a protype dexta before? To me it looks like somebody just slipped a ford or perkins 3 cylinder into their 8n.

Cool thanks for the info. I wish I could find a O-ring that fit the fuel tap. So I wouldn't have to spent money on a new tap.

Re: Duals... What are your thoughts?

I don't know if it will make a difference. But you could put 18.4/30s on the rear. They might give you some more float.

FMD Bolts

Hi, does anybody know the size of the bolts that connect the stay chains the rear axle. Also does anybody know the bolt size for the exhuast manifold bolts. One more question, What is the O-ring size on the fuel tap?

Thanks,
Matt

The smoke doesn't smell like coolant. When I get a chance I'll check the thermostat/tempature and add some ATF to the fuel.

Re: My '57 FMD

Yeah, biewers was the place. Its a shame they were sold. I wanted to take a better look when I got over there. About the white smoke. When you give it throttle it blows an cloud of white smoke. I forgot to mention it came with a full set of rear weights.
