Hi All,
Reference 1961 petrol Super Major.
Does anyone have the Lucas part numbers for the cap, points, rotor arm and condenser and what is the Lucas model number of this distributer?

Oil Filter for Perkins P6 for an E27N

Hi,
I had a British number for an oil filter for a P6 as fitted to an E27N but I've lost it. The last one I bought was made by Giesse of Italy and on the box said "Mod. LP - 93". I've tried to cross reference this number without success.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Re: My first tractor Resto Grandpa's E27N

Hi, Interested in paint colours, I remember back in the 50's buying paint to 'touch up' an E1A Major from my local Ernest Doe depot. It was labeled Empire Blue on opening it at home I found it was the dark blue of the E27N and so took it back. I remember Alf, then in the Sudbury stores, just changin...

Re: Main Bearing Replacement

Hi Chris, The rear main bearing is used as the 'thrust' bearing controlling crankshaft end float which should be no more than .010". Note the rear main cannot be removed for adjustment without removing the flywheel. Warning it can cause the crankshaft to break if the front two bearings are adjusted ...

Re: E27N P6 dashboard help

Hi Carl, The regulator should be a Lucas Type RB 106/1 which is the sort with screw terminals they are still available but I should stick to the screw type rather than the later RB 106/2 which has spade connectors. You might not have enough room for them. The early E!A majors had a similar switch bu...

Re: Fordson major john deere 14 t baler

Hi, you don't say if your major will be an E27N or an E1A. I have used a JD baler behind an E1A without any problem but a duel clutch does help when you get to thick bits. I bailed thousands of bales years ago using an E27N with an International baler it is much the same size so it should be OK but ...

Re: E27N Hydraulic Help

Hi, Glad things are going so well, your right they shouldn't drop at all when unladen. The down speed adjustment is the slotted screw on the top plate. Winding it back allows the control lever to move further thus opening the valve further - you are quite right that it should be set with the impleme...

Re: Grille and Crank Handle Question

Hi Jerry, I agree with all you say save the reason for keeping ones thumb on the same side as the fingers. It is not so that that the handle can pull out of your grip when she starts - it would do that anyway if the handle caught in the dog which I have never known happen on an E27N. It is in case i...

Re: Which dash box to use

Hi, thanks for the info re pressurized system, I have an ex Australian 1950 fitted with a P 6 which is why I was interested as it would seem as some were and some weren't in '48 /'49.
Anyway your dating is spot on so it looks as it the oblong box is the correct one for your tractor.

Re: Which dash box to use

Hi Chris,
The oblong box was introduced in March 1949 so depending the date your tractor was made either is correct. The oblong was fitted to both si and diesel tractors. As a matter of interest is your tractor fitted with radiator shutters and or a pressurized cooling system?

Re: E27N Hydraulic Help

Hi, The Smiths lift's relief pressure should be set at 1750 to 1850 psi at 520 rpm that is an engine speed of 790 on a high ratio gear box or 1100 rpm on a low box. The adjustment is made with a screw driver via the grub screw in the by-pass valve tappet. One complete turn = about 700 psi. You need ...

Re: Fordson Standard Crane tractor

That's interesting, had two sets for the E1A Majors and one for the 5000's. They were bought for a conventional gear box but like so many farmers due to inflation, one received more in part exchange than the tractor cost the year before so the front line tractor was changed annually. So they were al...

Re: Fordson Standard Crane tractor

Brian, are you talking about the Wrights spade lug wheels that I bought in the 60's? I had two sets sourced from Doe's, they were brilliant, much better than any spade lug / Miller wheel that we had before. It was the width of the rim together with the design of the lugs that made them so good. I ne...

Hi Barry M, That's interesting, I hadn't really thought about the reduction in fan size, but of course you're quite right. However in GB or Holland the ambient temperature isn't often hot enough for that to matter too much - probably also why in Australia you fitted pressurised cooling systems to th...

Hi Bram, I'm not criticising, I personally also like the earlier grill better and frankly don't believe it restricted the air flow to any meaningful extent, I was just interested. My philosophy is that every owner must do just as they like with their own tractor. That of course includes me and I kno...
