Re: Removal of lower link pins
John, The pins will be tight as they are tapered and tighten on the taper when the nut is tightened up. I would get a deep impact socket to fit over the outer part of the pin to sit flush on the trumpet to give the casing support if possible so as when you give the pin a good crack with the hammer a...

Re: Ransomes Plough
Mervyn, Im hoping to get it tried out this week weather permitting before heading off back to Angola. Just waiting on a few bolts to turn up to finish it off. If its too wet im just going to leave it just now as I need to get my new rear rims painted so as the paint has plenty of time to harden for ...

Re: Ransomes Plough
New points and shares arrived today and fitted. Had a little while with the flapper wheel on the front mouldboard to try and clean it up. Looks like it might clean up not too bad even though there are a few pits in it. https://s19.postimg.cc/gsog06vxr/DSC01944.jpg Didnt realise that the points were ...

Re: Ransomes Plough
God damn it Bob my cover has been blown lol. Due to me being impatient it has cost me more than it should. While I was away I sent 2 emails to Westlake enquiring about parts and never received a reply so in my wisdom purchased a pair of disc assemblies with one disc missing thinking I could get a di...

Re: Ransomes Plough
I have manage to pick up a set of discs and skimmers for the plough and trial fitted to see what it looks like. Heres hoping they do the job. https://s19.postimg.cc/j31bpojxb/DSC01935.jpg Crosshaft strightened and new end bracket manufactured by my local engineering firm whilst I was away. https://s...

Re: Wanted - PM2 Plough for my Dexta
Mike, Westlake are selling one listed on E-bay. They are pretty expensive for their stuff and not sure if you are willing to pay what they are asking and if its exactly what you are looking for. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=Ransomes+plough&_sop=10&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570...

Re: Rear Axle Bearings - Advice need!
Mike, I can fully sympathise with you and know where you are coming from regarding the good lady and after all you have to keep them happy. I still remember when I was restoring my classic motorbike I had blasted and painted my brake calipers and put them in the oven only to dry and harden the paint...

Re: Rear Axle Bearings - Advice need!
Mike, In my opinion if you have it stripped down that far you might as well replace the outer seal and bearings but its your tractor and your call at the end of the day. There are 4 components to it all, 1 x the inner seal which is the oil seal in the axle and stops oil travelling along the half shaf...

Brian, Glad to hear that you and your good lady have safely returned from your trip down under. Looking at your posts you seem to have had a fantastic holiday and a lot of great pictures too. Re: Dexta Steering Box
Ben, Good point you made there. I never thought that there would be different lengths of top shaft available as when I replaced my one it was like for like. Mind you its the same old story with a lot of the replacement parts available in that a lot of them need a bit of fettling to get to fit correc...

Re: Dexta Steering Box
Mike,
There is no washer between the nut and the steering wheel. It does look like that but it is only part of the steering wheel boss that you are seeing.
Regards,
Charlie

Re: Dexta Steering Box
Hi Mike, Hopefully your field of nettles haven't grown too much. You need the rubbers under the tank so will need to refit the one that you removed. When I refitted my tank I also used penny washers that I shaped and fitted under the rubber pads. If I remember correctly I had to grind a flat edge on...

Re: Ransomes Plough
Bob, Thanks for the advise. By the way was that a Lamborghini tractor you were ploughing with? I worked with Agricar at Laurencekirk a good few years ago and know the storeman there and also have a New Holland dealer only 15 minutes away at McMerry just south of Edinburgh so it would be worthwhile t...

Re: Ransomes Plough
Bob, Many thanks for the reply. Love the pics. Ive only ploughed once and that was in the novice class as I have mentioned before with my fathers Dexta. Only got to drive tractors when I left school in the early 80"s. One was a John Deere 2140 2 wheel drive for carting off turnips for spreading out ...

Re: Ransomes Plough
Questions on my TS54A plough now that I have it home and any advise appreciated. It is needing the points and shares replaced as Bob had pointed out on my previous post. Im unsure if it SCN bodies that are fitted and if anyone can verify for me that would be great. On the back of the board is stampe...

Re: Dexta Steering Box
When I stripped down my original steering box it was found that the shafts were badly worn and pitted and the internals of the steering box were in bad shape due to sitting for years with no oil in it but full of water. I managed to pick up a good second hand complete steering box which still had oi...

Re: Ransomes Plough
Bob, Just thought I would let you know that Ive managed to do a deal with the seller of the plough and pick it up at the weekend. Ive also ordered a manual for that specific plough which gives a parts list as well. Now I am going to show my lack of knowledge on ploughs as I have only ploughed with a...

Re: Ransomes Plough
Bob, Many thanks for the information. It is Cat 2 pins that are fitted to it so your theory could be right in that it was used by a bigger tractor and for land reclamation. I thought that it must have come into contact with something big to bend the shaft. I have my eye on a set of Cat1 pins that sh...

Re: Ransomes Plough
Bob, Many thanks for your reply. That is the very plough I am looking at. Ive asked the question if it is Cat 1 or Cat 2 pins and waiting a reply. Its not an expensive plough so not expecting a lot and would be prepared to spend a bit of cash on it obviously to bring it up to standard. Ive posted a ...

Thanks Mervyn. I feel like im making rally good progress now. Im not happy with the outcome of my bonnet. Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration
Thanks Mike. All the paint was removed and everything taken back to bare metal using industrial strength paint stripper and wire brushes in the drill. My compressor is a Clarke Raider 15/1000, 3hp,100 litre 14.5cfm and the spray gun I use is a Neilsen suction gun with a 1.6mm nozzle. I find this wor...
