Do you use the tractor a lot? Maybe it's caused by standing still too long?
Mathias,
I think you nailed it. Thats why I wont a Viton. Seems to last longer.
I don't fancy it doing the job every two or so years.

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Tool (home made!)

Nice tool.

I have done the job two times. Last time i put a speedy sleeve on it. Now two years later it's leaking again.
Now I'm trying to find a Viton seal for it, but have not found one yet. Looks like there are none for this size.
Anyone who has a tip?

Welcome Trad68, Nice story and glad you saved two Majors. I know there are many oldtimer tractors in Michigan. The serie Dr Pol is on TV in the Netherlands for a few years now and in between actions the show shots of farms and fields from your State. I spot mainly Allis Chalmers, JD and Internationa...

Re: Fordson Super Major Paint

Icom, Thats a problem. The bleu should be EMPIRE BLEU. But!!!!! The same name will give different shades by different supliers and different sorts of paint. The same for orange. Mine has RAL 2009 traffic orange on the wheels and 5017 traffic bleu on the tractor. I know it's the wrong colour. The ble...

Re: '57 Major, hydraulic faliures - Opinions?

Hair bear,

Bad news.
Cylinder is normal cast iron.
It would be no big deal machining a new one, but where do you get a bar of cast iron and you need a lathe and someone who can use it.

I think a breaker would be the best option.

Re: How to stop 3 point arms from settling?

Witty, I'm still having the same problem as you. I use a beam in my selfmade drawbar under the lift rod to stop my plough ripping all the stone or tarmet while driving on the road. It's a bit of a strugle getting the beam under it. I now have an idea to make something else so it can be blocket just ...

Re: FSM: Front Spindle Bearing Fit

A related question is, are there different sized spindles for the Fordson Super Major that would vary by only a handful of thousandths? Maybe I accidentally ordered or was shipped another version of the spindle? There where no different spindles for the Fordson as far as I know. I think some of the...

Re: Steering box

Biggest problem with these houses is to hold the oil inside. Sealing on the outgoing shaft is the problem.
