Re: Introducing my Wee Dexta project.
Chris, I am glad to know that you found my photos of value. My hope is to be back to work on my Dexta, this summer. I am putting the finishing touches on a Ford Funk, OHV 6, that has taken me more than two years. With luck, I'll have that done by the end of June, at which point I'll move my very pat...

Re: Introducing my Wee Dexta project.
I've restored six tractors and have found that it is best to prime and paint all of the parts - including the chassis and motor - before reassembly. Undoubtably you will ding or scratch some of the components when reassembling. However, it is not terribly time-consuming or difficult to do a final on...

Re: Wagner Loader On A Dexta??
Thanks for the input, guys. Here are a couple of shots of my Wagner loader after being sandblasted and painted: http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q59/ddoan1/ntractorclub%20photos/308438be.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q59/ddoan1/ntractorclub%20photos/dd10d51b.jpg http://i133.photobucket.co...

Wagner Loader On A Dexta??
Last week, I found this Wagner WF3 front end loader, on a Ford 641 tractor. http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q59/ddoan1/Dexta/d4b38900.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q59/ddoan1/Dexta/14187c68.jpg I made a deal for it and brought it home. Yesterday, I removed all of the hydraulic lines and ...

Re: Introducing my Wee Dexta project.
Jerry, My Dexta has two clutch discs. One for the transmission, the other for the PTO. In reading the shop manual, I was under the impression that there is a special tool for getting both discs centered, then aligned with the main shaft. I have two different alignment tools for clutch discs that I'v...

Re: Introducing my Wee Dexta project.
I, too, have been restoring a '59 Dexta. It has been an on again, off again project. Our tractors have s/n's that are very close - mine being 38782. As I've gone along, I've tried to photograph the process. It has proven helpful in keeping things straight over the past couple of years. Perhaps, you ...

it primarily affects high tensile or hardened steels....springs, lift arms, hardened and highly stressed fasteners, some cutter and implement parts might be affected. Re: Lift arm: weldable?
Mike,
Have you made a decision about buying the Dexta? If you have a chance to post a photo, we may be better able to give an opinion about its value - and how much work it will take to make repairs.
Good luck with this.

Re: Electrolysis
I use a solution of 1 tblspoon of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda per gallon of water. You can add more Washing Soda, but at a certain point it doesn't do any better. Ben, I do not use stainless steel. However, I am glad to know about the springs. Quite often, for small parts, I just let them soak o...

Electrolysis
Over the past month, I've gotten an electrolysis set up going for rust removal. The last tractor I got (a Ford 2N) had hardly any paint on it to remove, but LOTS of rust. My Dexta was the same way. So, I knew I had to get something going that would effectively address this tedious process. Some frie...

Control Lever Problem Fixed!
Almost a year ago, I made a post regarding the hydraulic control lever. As you can see from these two photos, I couldn't get the lever past the upright strut on the quadrant: http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q59/ddoan1/Dexta/quadrant1.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q59/ddoan1/Dexta/quadran...

Back On It's Feet
After a year-and-a-half on jackstands, my Dexta is now back on it's feet: http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q59/ddoan1/ntractorclub%20photos/dexta1-1.jpg I still have lots to do: brakes, clutch refit, and steering, but most of the cleaning and dry-fitting is done. I also plan on shooting one final ...

Yes, the double clutch is quite different, and considerably more difficult to restore and reinstall. As it happens, I'v...

Les, No, I still haven't figured out the control lever/quadrant problem. I do know, from looking closely at the Shop Manual, that my component parts look identical. But, something is obviously wrong with my set up. When I do a restoration, there are lots of things that come relatively easy. I get th...

Well, my '59 Dexta's motor is complete (for the most part). I've been dry fitting the tractor as I go along, then, take it apart for tweaking as necessary. I'm also finding that I haven't lost anything so far over the past 16 months. Here are some shots that I took earlier, today: http://i133.photob...

Great photos, Jerry. You look like you are having way too much fun. That is supposed to be work! A couple of month's ago I was at a tractor swap meet in Turlock, California, and saw this for sale on a table: http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q59/ddoan1/ntractorclub%20photos/OwnersManual.jpg It's an...

Engine Timing
I'm closing in on the completion of my Dexta's engine rebuild. Over the years, I've restored a few cars (mostly Lancias and Fiats) and have always found that when you set up the timing marks, they usually return to original position every other rotation of the crank. Well, here is a photo, taken las...

As much as I enjoy working on old tractors, I also have enjoyed the friendship and comaradarie of our little community. Especially the willingness of everyone to share and help. I'm inclined to think that I may have the wrong quadrant (or at least control lever) for my tractor. I went back into my photo archives and found these two "before" shots: http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q59/ddoan1/ntractorclub%20photos/quadrant1-1.jpg http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q59/ddoan...

Misfit Quadrant/Control Lever
This has become a real head-scratcher, for me. In all of the stuff I've done in restoring my '59 Dexta, this would seem pretty simple, but it isn't. The hydraulic control lever will not slide all the way to the top of the quadrant. It strikes the upper quadrant support, and won't go past it. Here's ...

Erik, This is exciting! Are you saying that you might be able to send along the torsion springs from your junk clutch. If so, I would be happy to receive them. "if you could mike all the journals" Hi Mark, Yes, we mic'd all the journals and found that they were well within spec. Frankly, the bearings showed about .001 of wear, but since they are out, I ordered a new set of standard rod and main bearings - and thrust washers - from Yesterday's Tractors. I h...
