Does anyone need free parts?
Many years ago I bought a petrol dexta, which then became two then finally a third. I have enjoyed them all but health issues have forced me in a different direction and I am going to sell them all. One has turf tires and runs exceptionally smooth. It was formerly used at a golf course. The second h...

pump or hydraulic lift problem?
My dexta recently has gotten very noisy with the hydraulics and is weaker in lifting implements. Is this likely to be the pump(I have a spare parts dexta with a good pump) or the lift assembly at the top? How do I test the pump or is there an obvious fault that has those symptoms? Thanks for any sug...

Re: Petrol dexta
I reused my head gasket since it was copper. You can anneal it by heating it up with a propane torch and dropping it on a colder sheet of steel. basically it deforms the gasket so it can crush again when torqued. Its common practice on old high performance engines so they can do engine work often wi...

Re: dexta locks up
I have not ad that problem myself but if it moves in neutral but not in gear then the issue is likely in the transmission or diff. Coasting down hill changes which surface the gears are meshing at... possibly its worn enough that a tooth jammed somewhere tho I expect if that happened it would be lou...

Re: Pulling out stock fence posts
I have done it with my dexta. The hardest part is getting a good grip with the chain in the limited distance of lift. It helps if you can wiggle the posts side to side a bit to loosen them.

Re: proofmeter querry
if no adaptors or solutions are found as a last resort you could put a small amount of JBweld in the rounded area and insert the cable tight. Leave it for a few hours and the JBweld should fill any gaps. Its quite hard, can even be tapped for threads.

mine is supported at three points... the axle, the transmission and the front of the motor so the load is spread across the whole tractor

Re: Loader fitting on Dexta's
This may give you some ideas for making your frame tho my Dexta is a petrol model the diesel will likely have similar mounting areas. This is my loader https://s5.postimg.cc/gx5olenkz/IMG_4451.jpg It bolts on the back axle (likely same as yours) https://s5.postimg.cc/gkeaf7ag3/IMG_4452.jpg And at th...

Re: Never trust a new tractor but sometimes it works out ok
Well, I put fresh oil in it and changed the oil filter. The filter they used before was tightly fit into the canister and would not likely let any oil around it but that didnt matter since it was too short and had no spring or plate to keep it tight against the intake pipe so the oil came into the c...

Re: Never trust a new tractor but sometimes it works out ok
Well, I gave up on the idea of welding up the holes in the oil bath air cleaner. There was nothing left to weld. I decided to cut the whole bottom off just below the oil level line and then searcvhed my shop for any container I could use to join to the bottom as a replacement. Several coffee cans we...

Re: Never trust a new tractor but sometimes it works out ok
Well, the head for the turf tractor is soaking to hopefully release its valves without damage so I switched back to the loader tractor for now. The tractor seat went on sale early so I grabbed one while they still had them. here it is installed https://photos.app.goo.gl/lLKavSCSyzzL0SGM2 https://s5....

Re: Never trust a new tractor but sometimes it works out ok
Well, I took the head off and it was a rusty mess in varying degrees in three of the cylinders. One was really bad while the other two were mostly just light surface rust. I forgot to take pictures but this one is similar to what I saw https://photos.app.goo.gl/xZb2VUKy8vFHQqrz2 https://s5.postimg.c...

Re: setting timing on petrol dexta
That method was not bad but I still had the occasional pop back into the carburetor. I decided to try a method I used years ago on an old car I had using a vacuum gauge. You adjust the timing to get the highest vacuum reading then back it off "just a bit". However the old zenith carb doesn't have a ...

Re: Never trust a new tractor but sometimes it works out ok
The rust under the valve cover was EVERYWHERE on every surface. The only way I can think it could get there was condensation during very humid months. I'm going to pull the head and see whats underneath. I have started by spraying everything with penetrating oil and poured trans fluid into each spar...

It does'nt seem to show in the post... not sure what I did wrong , tho clicking the link shows the photo. Here is what I found under the valve cover of the turf tire tractor. https://photos.app.goo.gl/AQkG0dbhZi0zwzB12 https://s5.postimg.cc/x1vb5zm03/IMG_4325.jpg It is locked up solid. No movement a...

Never trust a new tractor but sometimes it works out ok
I recently bought two more petrol Dexta tractors. One has a front end loader and the other has large turf tires. They had been parked for many years and I was told one "turns over" and the other they poured diesel into the spark plug holes a year ago. we haggled over the price and I assumed both wer...

Re: Dexta starter issues
I would probably put it on the bench and confirm it works correctly THEN try it in the tractor.
Is there any movement or noise when trying to engage the starter?
if not then a bad solenoid?

Re: setting timing on petrol dexta
Well, since petrol dextas are a bit rare and therefore the experience group is also a bit rare I will post what worked for me. I rotated the engine around untill I saw the 0 TDC mark stamped into the flywheel viewed inside the timing hole on the left side of the engine. I made sure my distributor ro...

setting timing on petrol dexta
I have searched but cannot find any listing on how to set ignition timing on the petrol dexta. I did find the timing cover , and found the mark for TDC with a white dash at TDC. I assume using a timing light but does it get set to TDC? and after new cap , rotor, and wires on a new to me tractor that...

howard 70 rotavator too much for my dexta?
I have a chance at getting a howard slectatilth model E 70 (6' wide)which is in good condition for $400 canadian. I am unsure if my petrol dexta will be able to use it. Does anyone know if this is too much for my old girl?
