Re: Fordson Dexta brakes replacement of brake shoe linings

I used to re-line the brakes on my Mini, with Dad (a mechanic) looking over my shoulder, that was 40 years ago and I've hardly done it since, as for most cars it's only complete shoes that are available.. Until I did my Major a couple of years ago. The only thing I can add, is that if you start in t...

Re: Whereabouts of WUF 704 Power Major

Our neighbour's dad traded-in their 135, which he had bought new, sometime in the 1970's (I think), much to his regret. He has been watching for a few years, hoping to find it and get it back although I don't think he actively did any searching for it. But a couple of years ago, someone told him abo...

Re: fitting a front loader

This is on ebay just now although I'm not sure what it does.. I have the idea a MF135 has a mounting surface under the front axle with 4 or 5 bolt holes, although I have no idea about the Dexta? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-MIL-Loader-mounting-bracket-Ferguson-FE-MF-35-Fordson-Dexta-tractor/31...

The JCB looks good too, very few left in this country with the cab all complete like that, another photo or 2 would be much appreciated!

Re: New Member / Buying advice

That roll-bar doesn't look very substantial, looks more like it is off some small Kubota, or perhaps home-made? To be correct it should have an official plate on it, although I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for having an incorrect or missing roll-bar or safety cab.

Re: What is the correct engine rpm for 540 pto rpm ?

A rotary hoe is easier to manage, there are usually alternative sets of gears in the hoe's gearbox (eg Howard 'Selectatilth') so you can keep up the engine revs for max power, even though the pto is over 540 rpm. A topper/slasher/mower wouldn't really be designed to be operated over 540 rpm, mine (w...

The only 3-cylinders with DP I know of, are some 4630's, and that must be a different gearbox as it is (I think) a 16x16 shuttle?

I only know that, as I would like one :D

Re: will a PARMITER POST KNOCKER work on a dexta

It should work, it is only a small ram so shouldn't need much oil, local fencing contractor here used one on a small David Brown tractor with no problems. It was surprising how big a post he could drive in, railway sleeper etc. Just a thought - is the pulley at the top ok, not seized? Plenty oil/gre...

5/8AF I think for the bellhousing? You'd be as well to get a set of AF spanners or sockets, at least from 7/16 to 3/4, as there are a few different sizes of bolts to remove?

Re: Intro and the beginning of an onslaught of questions

The latch to hold down the brake pedal, is the only 'parking' brake you have, as you don't appear to have a UK-spec handbrake lever. I have seen from my (USA published) I&T 'shop' manual that all tractors have the brake discs fitted inside the transmission, but not all have the lever/ratchet fitted ...

Re: Injector Pump Leak Off Pipe

I can't answer your question directly but I have a Ferguson TE20 tractor which has been fitted with a Perkins P3 and there is no pipework at all to connect the leak-off system back to the tank, it just vents down the side of the block, and I have been told that this is how they came new? A little po...

A 2000 will have rather more power than a grey Fergie and you see them with 5-foot toppers, I guess it depends what you will be cutting? Stuff like thistles/nettles are easily cut but if you need to chop big rushes or long grass then you may have to go very slowly.. A back-actor such as a McConnel i...

The bolts should be big enough for you to easily build up with weld, enough to get a self-grip pliers on, or ideally weld on a nut to screw them out? Much better than trying to weld a bracket on to the casting,, I have successfully done this with the bleed nipple on a car brake caliper which is only...

Piece of 2" angle iron about 2" long, preferably thick, and a big sledgehammer? Stand on the wheel, put the angle iron against the edge of the rim and hit it as hard as you can. If that doesn't move it, hit it again - but harder! You aren't in any danger if you hit it straight, but if you don't hit ...

Food for thought! I have recently had to change the turbo on my wife's car, and have given her ...

Re: Diesel Major rear brake shoe fitting

Just a thought, based on your earlier posts - are your cables fitted correctly into the backplates? I got new cables from Agriline, one at a time, when the first one came I couldn't get it to fit correctly (I almost attacked it with a grinder to make it fit) but it wasn't until I decided to fit a ne...
