Mark P, Your old Bearings will have the numbers stamped in to them and those numbers are still current. Inner Cup and Cone should be stamped 350 & 352. Outer Cup and Cone should be stamped 14118 & 14282. Check your Outers as there was a change made towards the end. Hoffman, Timken, SKF, etc., all us...

Alan,

You haven't really told us whether the tractor is fitted with a diesel or kerosene engine. Also, you won't find the Engine Number below No. 1 Injector. All Australian assembled tractors had the Engine Number stamped on the mating flange behind the starter.

You requested the torque figures for the injector hold down bolts. There are as follows:

All Fordson Major Tractors 12-15 lbs/ft.
Fordson Dexta 30-35 lbs/ft.

Andrew, From what you describe, I would be inclined to think that the previous owner may be the culprit by grinding too much from the valve stem. I have never come across a totally worn out lifter. The usual wear to them is from the valve stem continually hitting the lifter, and this can wear a dip ...

Keith, I can't find anything on the size of the battery leads. I have a couple of original leads here and they are not overly thick. The original earth lead was not wire, it was 8 strips of thin metal, approx. 1 inch wide with a terminal soldered on one end. The other end just has a hole drilled for...

Tim, I can't add much more than Frank. He has covered it quite well. The Starter Button is quite common as it was used on Austin & Ford Trucks. In later years it became the Horn Button for the New Major. Your Starter Motor should have a solonoid on the end of it. This means you can start it by press...

Henk,

Regarding the Rest-o-ride seat. Rest-o-ride was also used on some of the 5000 series Fords in Australia. Some of the Parts still carry the CONN Prefix, which would mean the Rest-o-ride was also used in the USA on some 1000 series.

Hi Guys, Stick with a Series 2 SAE 30 or 40 (for Kerosene engine) and you won't go wrong. Don't confuse Universal Engine Oil with Universal Fluid. Fluid is a rear end and hydraulic oil only. Whereas Universal Oil can be used in rear ends, engine, trans, and hydraulics. It is more suited to tractors ...
